Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    ftp_get_list() locks up A5

    This works perfectly:
    ftp_get_file( "www.aimsdc.net", "MyUserName", "MyPassword", "/www/Deck.jpg", "C:\Deck.jpg" )

But this just locks up A5 and the only answer is to click the big red "X" in the upper right corner:
    ftp_get_LIST( "www.aimsdc.net", "MyUserName", "MyPassword", "/www" )

I know I've used ftp_get_list() in the past but now I can't seem to make it work. Any ideas or is this a new bug?

DON'T be confused by the "www" folder. My ISP really did create a "www" folder. Everything on my site has to be under that folder but FTP accesses the "root" folder - the one above "www". ALSO, I tried it without the "www" and got the same results - A5 just locks up. (Tried it as "" and as "/" but neither works.)

    Later:

I just tried it with my other website at www.trakitsp.com and it works fine there. Anybody have an idea why it won't work on the other site??? (By the way, if you just click on the trakitsp site, you will be redirected to the aimsdc.net site. That was done on purpose but I'm pretty sure that shouldn't have anything to do with this problem. I have a web app that runs on the trakitsp site but all the info about it was already installed on the aimsdc site so my index.htm just redirects them to the other site. Users log in to a specific folder to run their apps.)

    Cal -

I don't remember why I chose this method, but I use this and it works:

    Code:
    fl = ftp_get_nlist(ftp_Address, ftp_User, ftp_Password, ftp_Path)
I know you have sharp eyes, but I'll point it out anyway: the difference is that you get list, I get nlist

I tried that after posting the first message. That doesn't work either.

I'm sure it has something to do with the way that ISP has the directories set up but I can't figure out what it would be.

FYI: "Nlist" returns a simple list of the file names which is really what I wanted. "List" returns a full directory listing including subfolders and other info.

        Cal,

I had an isp once that also assigned the www as my directory, but when I logged in I did not need to include it as it was considered my root. Have you tried:

        ftp_get_LIST( "www.aimsdc.net", "MyUserName", "MyPassword", "" )

          Yep.

ALSO, I tried it without the "www" and got the same results - A5 just locks up. (Tried it as "" and as "/" but neither works.)
BTW, I waited 6 minutes to see if it would time out at 5 minutes but no luck.

In case you're wondering why I need this....

I created my own "auto-update" routine by putting a folder on the website that includes the latest version number on the end of the name.

          EX: "Latest_version_update_6120"

The ftp_get_nlist() reads the files in the folder, looks for one starting with "Latest_version_update_" then takes the number off the end to compare with the Network Optimize number. If the "latest" is higher, do whatever needs to be done. In this case, I'm just directing them to a "version updates" page where they can read about the changes before installing the update but I could even start the download if I wanted to.

Thankfully, I have 2 sites and the other one "works" so I'm running the necessary routine off that one.

Sorry I missed that Cal. Did you try "/www/", I don't see that one in your list :)

Edited: you may also want to contact your isp, it is possible they do not allowing 'listing' via ftp.

Hmmm, that's in interesting thought. If my regular FTP program can get the listing, why can't ftp_get_list() or ftp_get_nlist()??

I just ran it with no folder name in order to get the root listing. (I probably did that before but wasn't 100% sure.) Even though there are a couple files in there, the function just hangs.

I'll contact the ISP to see if they can shed any light on it. And, if Lenny sees this, maybe he'll have some thoughts.
