Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Stuck using radiobutton control in dialog component

    I am trying to insert a dialog component page between two grids and have a Student_Id field carry through.

    The first grid is a read only grid in which I have a field linking to the second grid, which is updateable, add records only, to a desktop table called Students. The link address for the linking field is:
    SelectClass.a5w?Selectclass_link_1C=Student_Id={Student_Id}
    The second updateable grid has Student_Id defined as a textbox field. When I enter new data and submit the record, all the data including Student_Id are saved correctly into the destination desktop table.

    I want to insert a dialog component page between the two grid component pages that allows the user several selections using a radio button. One of the selections will allow the process path described above. The other selections go to other pages. I have defined the choices for the radio button and used the following code in the After Validate section of the component:
    Code:
        IF Radiobutton = "1" then
             dim filter as c
             filter = "Student_Id=" + quote(Student_Id)
             filter = urlencode(filter)
             Currentform.redirectTarget="SelectClass.a5w?Selectclass_filter="+filter
        else if Radiobutton = "2" then
             Currentform.redirectTarget="MainMenu.a5w"
        endif
    This code works and opens the pages correctly. But when entering data into the SelectClass page, it all gets saved to the desktop EXCEPT for Student_Id. The filter seems not to work, but I can't find anything wrong with it. In the dialog component Student_Id is defined as a textbox control; the other control is the radiobutton. Any ideas what might be my problem?

    Re: Stuck using radiobutton control in dialog component

    You might want to consider a different approach. You say the page without the dialog works just fine, so why not use it without the dialog?

    The picture attached shows one approach where you use buttons instead of a component.

    I'm confused about your approach, since I don't know at what point the submit for the grid components occurs. You say the dialog is between the two grids, so are you trying to interrupt the processing and redirect it?

    If you want to stick with your approach, you might try a small change. On the page, the grid components don't know anything about the dialog and vice versa, so you could filter the page based on a session variable, and have the dialog set the session variable instead of trying to create a filter. Also, give the dialog variable a different name than the name used in the grids so there is no confusion, say "Student_Id2". It doesn't matter where on the page the dialog is located.

      Oops, I just reread your post and I realize that you are talking about three different pages. I was thinking you had two grids in a gridlinker and a dialog component all on the same page.

      In any event, I still recommend you put your navigation choices on the first page and keep the grid to grid link as you have it.
