Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

Re: How would I do this ?

I want to thank everyone for their help.

So far I have dug into a bit and have been able to get the dialogs to post the information to my tables, which I think is great.

I looked at some of the stuff you mention Steve and tried it and it works okay. I made a dialog, posted the case number to all of my tables, so when I continued on with it, it would show me records instead of a "No records in query".

But now I am stumbling a little bit. By adding the one record I can fill it out, but I can't add any additional information to that table, unless I would enter the case number in the next blank row.

        Does this make any sense.

I guess what I am getting as is, say I have 10 people I need to enter in the Witness portion of my report. By doing it this way I can get one witness area filled out, but any of the additional ones I fill out and submit are not tied to my case number, because they don't have the case number, which was generated by my dialog.

So if this makes any sense I am wondering how I would input the case number on these additional witness without having my officer input them himself.

Man its late and I am tired, if ya all can help me I would greatly appreciate it.

        Thanks
        Dale

Re: How would I do this ?

HAHA i got the tables to work like you suggest Steve, man that is a cool way to do it, now i am trying to figure out how I would come back to the case, so it could be review or edited at a later date.

I am thinking it might have something to do with lookup(), but i am not sure, could you or someone give me some guidance on how I might use the dialog component to look something up.

Thanks again for all the help,
            Dale

Re: How would I do this ?

In the dialog you ask what case they want to look at. You set a session variable to that case number (that's one way), and then open a grid component that is filtered using DBF.filter= to that session variable. So the grid will just show that one case. THe other way is to just show all of the cases without filtering, let them pick the case they want to edit and provide a Detail page to your grid that allows them to edit that case.

Re: How would I do this ?

Man I am almost home with my incident report but have hit another stumbling block and if anyone could help with this I would appreciate it.

While I was developing my form I stripped out my logintest and security level protections. Now that I have them on my server and have replaced both of these it is causing some errors on my page.

At first I removed the security levels because the page could not find them, so wouldn't allow me to proceed. After i removed them and went to the page I had to login back in, and once I logged in then it gave me the reports but it gave me all of them and apparently by passed my session.case_no because it was removed or no longer existed.

Can ya all give me some help on this, I need to have the login and security lvles in there, or at least the login.

                  Thanks for the help again

Re: How would I do this ?

Just to clarify I use the following statements for log in and security on each page

                    <%a5
                    a5w_include("logintest.a5w")
                    %>

is log in which is directed to this page for evaluation and it says ......

                    session.targetURL = request.request_uri

                    if eval_valid("session.__Protected__Logged_In") = .f. then
                    response.redirect("loginPage.a5w")
                    end if

                    and my security is this

                    <%a5
                    select
                    case session.__protected__SecurityLevel >=2
                    case else
                    response.redirect("frontpage.a5w")
                    end select
                    %>

I am thinking it is a conflict where my session.case_no, is lost or removed because of one of these to statements but I am not sure how to correct it.
