Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    advance the records in an embedded browse

    I found this code in an article on the "Learn Alpha Five" site, written by Jack Wheeler,

    "How convenient it would be to just push a button and advance the records in an embedded browse by as many records as are present in the browse"

    Just what I was looking for. I have tried to contact the author by email, but it is returned undeliverable, possibly a now disused address?

    Code as follows is as supplied except for the count (from 6 to 35) and the browse name change.

    button named "next page" code under 'on push'

    dim f as p
    dim t as p
    t=table.current()
    f = parentform.this
    f:browse1:browse booking list 06.activate()
    for i = 1 to 34
    t.fetch_next()
    next i
    f:browse1.refresh()

    The problem is that the first press it works fine, but will not advance on any subsequent presses.

    I have checked different for - next quantities, but that makes no difference.

    I have looked at Action scripting for an alternative solution, but cannot find one that will advance all the displayed records at once.

    There are 200 or so records in this browse.

    Would really appreciate any pointers

    Brian,

    If your browse has focus, why not simply use the PgUp/PgDn keys on the keyboard?

      And along with what Cheryl has indicated, if you wanted buttons to use for this simply use the AS send keys on the OnPush event to activate the Page Up and Page Down keys....

        It might look to you like it is not doing anything on subsequent presses, but actually, it is. Problem is, it's statrting from the first record in the browse going down 36 rows!

        You might want to add a counter that increase with each press.

            Try:
            dim f as p
            dim t as p
            dim global counter as n
            dim k as n

            counter=counter+1
            k=counter*34
            t=table.current()
            f = parentform.this
            f:browse1:browse booking list 06.activate()
            for i = 1 to k
            t.fetch_next()
            next i
            f:browse1.refresh()

              Re: advance the records in an embedded browse

              Look, Thanks to all you guys (and ladies) Really appreciate your time and comments.

              Cheryl, appreciate the up down keys, but "whatever Lola wants, Lola gets" customers as well, and I can see the point. Mouse in hand ,click - click etc. or "drop" the mouse and look down for the up/down keys, not a lot in it I guess, but it breaks the flow perhaps.

              Mike, I did try to set up an 'OnPush' page down. but could not find the commands, except to advance one record at a time. Will look closer for the AS send keys.

              G Gabriel, Wondered about it starting from one again, will study your code (which I thank you for) and hopefully learn a bit more.
              Again thanks to all - you are collectively stress relief, and its great.
