Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

Viewing a web page from a PDA

I have developed some (a5w) web pages. Everything works just fine. What a great product.

    I have 2 questions.

    1) I am trying to access the pages from my mobile device. Its is a palm treo 650 using the "palmOne Blazer v4.0 browser". I seem to get to all other sites on the web but mine. It doesn't matter if my home page is straight html or a5w pages. I can have a one word index page and the palm will say "Page download could not be completed. Please try again later."

I also tried the pocket PC model with the same results.

I'm not sure where the problem is.

I am looking for a PDA that will run a web browser with a5v7 WAS.

    2.) Firefox & Login problem.

I made a logon for my site and soon realized that it only works with internet explorer not with firefox. I search the message board and see that others were having the same problem. Can someone point me to a solution?

    Thanks,
    jb

Re: Viewing a web page from a PDA

You might try http://www.palminfocenter.com/. If you search the internet on "palm Page download could not be completed. Please try again later", you will find lots of people discussion similar problems.

On the firefox issue, I recall there was a problem, but was fixed in a patch. Confirm you have the latest patch on your web server and your developer copy of Alpha. I don't have any problems logging in via firefox, but the screen graphics look a little different.

      thanks for the reply Steve.

I have the last patch and still having the problem.

On the PDA issue I guess I need to know if it is an Alpha issue or a PDA issue. The only site I can't see on a PDA is my site. Can you view an AW5 page on a PDA device.

Re: Viewing a web page from a PDA

I'm just posting as I find things out. I can't view alpha's sample page http://was.alphasoftware.com either from my PDA. I also tried a different PDA browser Pocketlink. I tried Blazer earlier also with no luck. If anyone knows of a PDA browser or if any browser will work please post.

        Thanks all

You didn't state how your are accessing the internet (wi-fi or mobile broadband).

My wife has the Treo 650 with Sprint Vision - dial-up speeds. She can rarely access a5 pages. Occasionally she can get one to come up -- usually without any style sheet info.
I have the Treo 700 with Sprint Power Vision - 800kb-2mb speeds. I have better luck, but the pages still come up very sporadically. This is whether I access it via the PDA or using the phone-as-modem feature.

I and others have posted about this (mobile network problem) a few times, but no one from Alpha has ever responded to it.

I've been working directly with Brett on this problem and may have a solution. We are compiling the code now and will test it together when it is ready.

For what it's worth, I am able to view and enter data into my WAS pages on my Sprint/Nextel Blackberry 7100i.

Needless to say, the pages do not look the same as on a regular full size browser, but they do work, colors and all.

So far, the only things that I've found that do not work on the Blackberry, are the date picker, and the lookup function. Both return a "404-Page Not Found."

Thanks for the info. I am using a verizon mobile and can't see the pages. I am planning to write mobile pages only if and when I get this to work. Right now everything is new and every little bit of info helps very much.

                    Thanks again.

                    PS. Lenny keep me posted.

Rich mentioned in this thread that he had trouble with Verizon EVDO.

The patch worked great. I have not had a "Page cannot be displayed" error since installing it. Even some of the sporadic problems on my non-Sprint connections seem to have disappeared. It's such a relief to have the pages load consistantly.

Thanks to Lenny and Selwyn for solving this problem. I assume they'll make the patch available to everyone soon.

It wasn't obvious to me how to apply this patch to a WAS server, since it is not a WAS patch. Here is the answer I got on how to do it.
                              _________________________________
The fix was to the server. So it was not necessary to republish the site.

If you installed the full patch, you can just copy the system.aex and alpha5.aex files from the folder where you installed the full patch to the folder where your server is installed.

you will need to stop the server before you copy these files, and then restart the server.
