Default Incorrect Format for dbf file

I have A-4 and A-5 When I try to open a database I get "Incorrect Format
for dbf file" Some time I get "Acess has been denied" you may not have
"Read and Write Privileges" Ithink this all started when I tried to print a database.

You mentioned that you have A4 and A5. Are you using both versions on the same database? Do you get the indicated message from A4, A5, or both?

I had both A-4 and A-5 on the same PC. I removed A-5 but still get the
same problems. The help {F1} does not help much.

Since you've removed A5, I'll guess that you want to use A4, but are getting the error messages from A4.

I'll also guess that you used both A4 and A5 on the same tables(databases - A4). If you did, then A5 converted the some of the tables to its format which may make it incompatable with A4.

With any software, I always suspect that a newer version will make the file/database/table incompatable with an older version. So I use a different copy with the other version.

Not sure what you've done or how to fix it. It may involve going to a backup copy of the database or rebuilding the data and importing it from the copy that you can get to with the version that it works with.

Since you brought up read/write access messages, did you move from one computer to another using a CD with the files on it? There are numerous messages on the board about using a CD-R and then having to turn the read-only flag off once the files are placed on another hard drive.

Hope you get it straightened out.

I just ran an experiment to see if I could help. I also have A4 & A5 (trying to learn that monster), and the same PATIENTS database is in both.

I made a copy of the A4 database and zapped all records. I then appended the PATIENTS table from A5.

Result: all records from the A5 table were successfully copied into the new A4 database.

I hope this isn't too late to help.
