Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    newbie to alpha 5:publishing problem

I have just downloaded and installed alpha 5, web server and alpha sport web and thought I would see what it could do. When I click on publish files button I get the following error :
script:OnPush line:5 a5w_publish("default",local webroot",1) property not found array[] not found.

Publishing the web demo works fine.

I have left everything as default. What am I doing wrong ???

That does not look like any 'normal' error that we would see when publishing. I suspect a bad installation or perhaps locked files. Can you see alpha sports web in the Live Preview? The OnPush event code you see in your error would not be available to you, it would be Alpha internal code (I believe).

Re: newbie to alpha 5:publishing problem

I cant find the live preview button. The help says it is the one with a lightning flash but there is no button like it.

Should I re-install the app or the whole of alpha 5 ?

Re: newbie to alpha 5:publishing problem

Its hard to tell without looking. Did you install all three (Alpha. Web server and alpha sports app) on the same computer? The web server is installed and running if a round red or green Alpha Web Server icon appears in your computer's taskbar, far right. If so, turn OFF the web server, go back to Alpha Five and publish to local web root and try to launch. Let it start the web server when it asks you about it. This is the LOCAL webserver, not the seperate one you purchased - confusing enough? Sorry.

Yes, I installed all three. Made sure the web server was down (red light) and all that. I have also uninstalled all three, downloaded all three again and re-installed. Same problem. Must be in the alphasportsweb application as everything else including the web demo works fine!

Re: newbie to alpha 5:publishing problem

I had no problem publishing, but it does not always launch correctly. Look at the bottom of this forum page for the link to another post titled.

Publishing alpha sports web a challenge

If you still have problems, I know who you might ask at Alpha.

              Thanks for that,
I had a look at the link but it appeared to be a different problem. I have Alpha 5, the web server and alphasportsweb all on the same machine and am trying to publish to the same machine.

This is really annoying as everything else seems OK.

I don't know how Alpha looks at is, but I would describe it as an installation issue, and they provide after-sale support for that. I'd call them for support. It should publish, out of the box, to the local web host without any issue. To a server would be a different thing because there are so many variables.

Try closing the menu and opening the Web Control Panel. Publish all files from there. You should not have any problem.

Re: newbie to alpha 5:publishing problem

I have now got the Alpha Sports Web working by editing the web project profile for the local web root. I changed the target folder in the "folder in webroot screen"to blank, see instructions at the bottom of that screen.
