Default User Name and Password Logging In Question

If im creating a software that will have many users that will log in using their own unique user name and password, how do I set up the log in screen so the software does not try to add the user name and password to the database each time someone try to log in, but will instead just cross refference the database to see if the user name and password is ligit.

i dont really get what you are trying to do but you can give this a shot.
-create your database password. from there, you can define users and groups that can be used for security purpose.

    or

    search this in help
    -Security
-Security, Dialog Box for User Sign-in

    hope these helps
    have fun

Thanks for the response, but those searches didnt really help, the first returned a lot of non related topics and the other returned only this post.

Im working on a software that will create and manage members for an internet cafe. I believe I've done everything correct except for the "log on" page. this page is attached to a table named "log on". and the only purpose for this table is to be the associating table for the page. What should happen is, when someone enters a user name and password, it should check to see if such a combination exist in the members table, if it does then the log on page that covers the screen will close and open a short and wide page that runs along the bottom of the screen, this page will show the currently logged in member and show the start time, and duration of this use, the current cost based on the hourly rate and a few more details, when the person clicks the log out button, the end time, total time spent and total cost will be displayed, it will then close the small page and return to the full screen log on page ready for the next user.

The problem now is when i try to log in using different profiles the software tries to add the user name and password that i enter to the members table, even though thats not the associating table for the log on page, if i enter a valid user name but a wrong password then the password in the members table for that member gets updated to this wrong one.
The bottom line is; how do i get the log on page to treat the text entered in the user name and password field as just text for querrying purposes on the members table rather than fresh data to be added to the tables (reffering to the members and log on tables)

I am a beginning Alpha User, but this sounds like some problems I have seen before. Are you using the default textboxes in the form creator, or are you adding textboxes assigned to variables? If you use the second option, you can do your query and comparison through the button's OnPush event by comparing a variable value obtained from the form/user, and it shouldn't be able to put those values in your table unless you tell it to. Again, this advice may not be correct in Alpha, but thought I would help.

    Nigel,

The answer to your question is this.

    1. Make a table with 3 or 4 fields. I call mine Login.
    Fields: LoginID, User, UserID, Password
    2. Add a button with actions that
    1) creates a variable for each value entered into those fields.
    3. Add action script to Cancel the

    Nigel,

    Try this:

    1. Make a table with 1 field. I call mine Dummy.
    2. ADD GLOBAL variables to your autoexec code.
vsysLoginID, vsysPassword make them Character = "" (blank)
    3. Add these variable as fields on a blank form based on the Dummy table.
    4. Add a button with actions that
    a) Create your Login function with Lookup()' using the vsys-variables above and a bunch of if-then conditions.
    b) dims the variable to "" on exit.

This should make the table hold one empty record that is never entered or saved.
