Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Re: If search result is bigger than 50 totalrecords then ??????

    I have inserted another code above the grid to the a5w site:

    DIM t AS P
    DIm rec as N
    DIM liczba as N
    liczba=50

    t = table.open("[PathAlias.ADB_Name]\Product.dbf")
    t.order("Product_name")
    rec = t.fetch_find(nazwa)
    if rec > liczba then
    CurrentForm.RedirectTarget="search_error1.a5w"
    end if

    But when i search I have this error: "Invalid key length"
    I dont understand because the search name is 50 lenght,
    but in the table "Products" the Products_name lenght is 240
    meybe this is the problem?

      hi Damian
      if (Args.Info.TotalRecords > 50 ) then
      Result.Cancel = .t.
      Result.ErrorHTML = "Define parameters of searching out exactly"
      end if
      have you tried

      if Args.Info.TotalRecords > 50 then
      Result.Cancel = .t.
      Result.ErrorHTML = "Define parameters of searching out exactly"
      end if

      and what is " nazwa " and how is it defined?

      and i am confused about what you want

      are you trying to limit the number of records returned or
      are you trying to limit the length of the search string
      your 2 posts dont seem to work together for the same result?
      regards

        Re: If search result is bigger than 50 totalrecords then ??????

        Thanks for replay Martin,

        yes I tried this

        if Args.Info.TotalRecords > 50 then
        Result.Cancel = .t.
        Result.ErrorHTML = "Define parameters of searching out exactly"
        end if

        but with no result

        Examle for this what I wont to do:
        I have In the table "Products" the row name: "product_name"
        and in "product_name" have 62179 records.

        I wants search product name like "Polska" but this product
        in data base is 154 (<-totalrecords)
        And in this moment i must have limitation of searching
        If totalrecords is bigger than 50 then is showing ERROR text , but if totalrecords is < 50 then show results of search.

        I hope I good explain this problem :(

          Re: If search result is bigger than 50 totalrecords then ??????

          Hi Damian

          the problem with your code is that the result variable is
          not available in the aftersearch event ---
          The Result variable is available for use in the CanUpdateRecord, CanDeleteRecord, and CanInsertRecord grid event scripts.
          from the help index see
          http://support.alphasoftware.com/alp...t_Variable.htm

          you can test your code by using this:

          if Args.Info.TotalRecords > 500 then
          Response.Redirect("mybadsearch.a5w")
          end if

          then if you use "Polska" the grid will return all 156 records
          but if you change your code to:

          if Args.Info.TotalRecords > 100 then
          Response.Redirect("mybadsearch.a5w")
          end if

          then again using "Polska" your grid will show an error attempting to
          show the non existant "mybadsearch.a5w"

          you could then create a real mybadsearch.a5w page with an error message on it and a button that would redirect back to your original page with the search grid
          regards
