Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Printing Report

    I have a grid with a link on it to print the relevant record

    the link is the following: printtest.a5w?session.reprint_record={assessment_number}

    I have the following code on the printest.a5w page:

    <html>
    <head>
    <meta name="generator" content="Alpha Five HTML Editor">
    <title></title>
    </head>
    <body>
    <p><%a5

    dim session.reprint_record as c

    vassessment_number = lookupc("F",session.reprint_record,"Assessment_number","[PathAlias.ADB_Path]\assessment form","")

    query.filter = "assessment_number() = " + val(var->session.reprint_record)
    query.order = ""
    filename = session.session_folder + chr(92) + "Assessorsreport.pdf"
    report.saveas(vassessment_number+"@[PathAlias.ADB_Path]\assessment form set.set","pdf",filter,order,filename,.f.)

    response.redirect(session.session_url + "Assessorsreport.pdf?" + time("hms3"))
    %></p>
    </body></html>[/COLOR]
    I get this error when pushing on the link

    Can anybody see where I am going wrong

    Any help will be appreciated

    Thank-you

    John

      Code:
      dim session.reprint_record as c
      vassessment_number = lookupc("F",session.reprint_record,"Assessment_number","[PathAlias.ADB_Path]\assessment form","")
      I haven't looked at everything, but one thing does jump out at me:

      You dim session.reprint_record as a character-type. But the index you're using -- record number index -- is a numeric-type. So you might try this:

      Code:
      vassessment_number = lookupc("F",val(session.reprint_record),"Assessment_number","[PathAlias.ADB_Path]\assessment form","")
      I'll presume that you are indeed returning a character type value, in which case your lookupc() would be the correct function.

        Hi Steve

        Thanks for that

        Forgive me if I sound stupid.

        The assessment_number field is a numeric field and I am trying to print a report based on that number (If that makes sense to you)

        So I am not sure if I am using the correct procedure to do this

        Thanks

          Re: Printing Report

          If you're returning a numeric value, you want to use lookupn().

          Code:
          dim session.reprint_record as c
          vassessment_number = lookupn("F",val(session.reprint_record),"Assessment_number","[PathAlias.ADB_Path]\assessment form","")
          I also see that the table, named "assessment form" has a space in the table name. This can cause trouble as well, and should be named without the space. Assessment_Form would be acceptable.

            Made the change and get error:

            Script Error
            Error:Script: /printtest.a5w line:10
            vassessment_number = lookupn("F",val(session.reprint_record),"Assessment_number"
            error: lookupn(r,15872.000000,ASSESSMENT_NUMBER,\\kmserver\assess pro 2006\\assessment form,) Record number is past end of table

            Also tried to change "assessment form" to "assessment_form" and got a error:

              I think you might benefit by studying this more, and comparing your syntax to the correct syntax in the help docs.

              First of all, simply changing "assessment form" to "assessment_form" in your expression isn't the same as renaming the table and making sure that, at the bottom of it all, the table has a legal name. You may get away with it, but definitely a red flag.

              Second: Do you have a record number 15872 in your table?

              Third: Look at the path for your server & table: \\kmserver\assess pro 2006\\assessment form. Are you sure you should have two slashes before the table name? If you can get to other tables, say, through a grid component, with this alias, then you're probably OK. If you can't get to other tables, then you need to review your alias.

              You can also put a piece of code right on a page. Just put this into a page and see if it returns a valid result:

              Code:
              <%A5
              ?lookupn("F",15872,"Assessment_number","[PathAlias.ADB_Path]\assessment form","")
              %>

                Hi Steve

                Thanks for your efforts

                Are we talking records as in number of records in the table?

                I have an assessment number 15872 but only about 6000 records at the moment.

                Could that be where I am getting confused?

                Thanks

                John

                  Re: Printing Report

                  Yup. Study the syntax for the lookupn() function. The last parameter is the index. You've been using the record-number index, searching for a record number that doesn't exist.

                    I have managedto get rid of the previous error but now am getting a new one:
