Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    XP Theme buttons

I've seached this forum and can't find an anwer to this minor problem

When using XP Theme buttons, bitmap followed by text for example, is there
a way to have the bitmap 'overlay' the button, not appear beside it? Take a
look at the buttons in A5Doc if I'm not making myself clear.

    Don:
I am not sure what do you mean by 'overlay'? if you mean the bitmap on top of the text, the answer is no.

      Gabriel -
Thanks for taking the time to reply. It's a minor issue and probably not
worth spending more time on but I am still curious how the buttons in A5Doc
were made. As far as I know it is an A5 application.

In MHO, apps. running under XP look more 'seamless' if XP theme buttons
are used; 'overlaid' bitmaps would make the effect even better.

As mentioned, it's not a big issue, Ill just have to work with what's possible.:D

I must be behind the times to say I am not sure what is A5Doc. But if you wish to have a button with bitmap on top of text, you might do what I did. Something like:

          Gabriel -
A5Doc is the database documentor from Partec Database Systems (William H. Parker)

          Thanks again for your suggestions.

Don, which specific A5Doc buttons are you talking about?

              Tom -

The type of button I would like to create is like the one on the
first dialog box you see when you start A5Doc, the 'Help' button with
              the question mark on it.

Sounds like I am barking up the wrong tree on this, but if there is any
way it can be done let me know.

              Thanks in advance

Why can't the button be created with the button genie, using the option bitmap followed by text? -- tom

                  Re: XP Theme buttons

                  Hi Tom -

Bitmap followed by text buttons (2nd. button) are no problem as long as I don't use use bitmap followed by text + XP Theme (3rd. button)

As you can see, the bitmap 'flattens' part of the button rather than overlaying it. The bitmap I used as an example is internal to A5, I've tried
several different ones and the result is the same. Is there something obvious
I'm overlooking here or is this just not possible as already suggested by Gabriel?

                  Thanks for your help

                    Don:
alpha, does not provide with this option, But you could design any bitmap you wish with text overlay and save it to use it on a button. In the example I provided, I designed these bitmap with the text under the bitmap, a feature not available in alpha and won't be considered since it does not have the 'feel' of windows as I was told by alpha designers. I wrote a thread about this a while back.

Don, sorry to have wasted the bandwidth. I didn't understand your question. Now that I do, I realize I don't know the answer.
