Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Radio buttons based on months

    Hi.

    I have a grid component. Within this component, i am trying to create 3 radio buttons representing months left. For example, if you want to know how many items warranties are going to expire within 1,2 or 3 months then you would select the appropiate radio button. The Warranty_Expiry field in the table contains the expiration date. So the result will be a list of items corresponding to the appropriate radio button selection.

    e.g. List all items who's warranty is due to expire in 1 month.

    How can i represent this in a radio button within a grid component.

    Cheers,

    Denis

    Denis,

    I think what you want to do is create a dialog component with the radio button. Basically a variable to select a query.

    Do a search on this board. I believe Steve Wood described how to do the query using a radio button.

    Xbasic wise, for the last 30 days would be something like:

    Between(your_date_field, Date(), Date()-30)

      Peter, wouldn't that be

      Date()+30 ?

      And, one other thing. Denis hasn't told us how he defines "next 1, 2 or 3 months". Personally I think 30 days per "month" is close enough, but it's not exact, as you well know, and he may have something else in mind. Who knows?

        Yup.

        Date plus 30, date minus 30, what have you :)

          Re: Radio buttons based on months

          Thanks guys i will give this a try. I am really strating from scratch here. I simply have the expiry dates in a table under Warranty_Expiry. So my thought process is to have the selection within the search criteria as

          Due to expire within......

          radio 1 = 1 calender month or 30 days
          radio 2 = 2 calender months or 60 days
          radio 3 = 3 calendar months or 90 days

          Therefore after you select the relevant radio button and hit search, the filter will kick in and only display the relevant items.

              Do you mean you want the radio button in the Search area of a Grid? Or, on a Dialog that then opens the Grid?

                Steve, I think he wants a grid displayed, with a radio button component underneath (or above) which filters the 30/60/90 days and updates the grid.

                  Re: Radio buttons based on months

                  I know I could do it from a Navigation menu or from a Dialog; not sure how to do it from a Grid Search area. I'd set a session variable in the dialog and then use that to set the DBF.filter= in the A5W page.

                  select
                  case session.warranty = "30"
                  DBF.filter = WarrantyDate=date()-30
                  .... rest of the cases
                  end select

                  Its early AM, I did not test the above or use proper syntax

                    Thanks for your reply Steve. Its early days and i suppose i am looking for a bit of guidance on this one using the best method. Nothing set in stone.

                    Ultimately, after selecting the radio button i will end up with a list of items meeting the search critera.

                          Thanks for the link Peter, but i cant see how that helps me.

                          Heres a screen shot of what i am trying to achieve.

                          For example, i want to search for a desktop who's warranty is due to expire in 30 days. How would i write the code for the radio button to filter the grid based on 30 days?

                            I don't think you can do it form the "search part" the way your image shows. You have to create a separate component, that you would display above or below the grid. That component, based upon variables - could be a radio button just like you show, would execute the page resubmit with the filter.
