Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

What changes are in Alpha4 V8?

I have used A4 for years. Upgraded to V7 about 2 years ago. Was not aware of V8 until saw postings on this forum. What changes are there? I am running a desk top HP with Win XP and a Dell 6000 laptop. Have had trouble with MS security updates. Was ready to reformat HD until I found this forum today on deleting MS update KB885835, it works!!! Thanks to all you that recommended that.

To my knowledge, V8 added Fax and Email capabilities. I'll look around and see if I can find anything advising "What's new in V8".

Re: What changes are in Alpha4 V8?

THIS IS COPIED DIRECTLY FROM A4V8'S "WHAT'S NEW" SECTION.

This document describes what's new in Alpha Four Version 8.

Alpha Four Version 8 changes the way your application can deliver information. In the past, you printed a report and hand delivered a stack of paper to recipients. Or you printed and mailed hundreds of invoices, with all the associated costs of labor, envelopes, and postage. Version 8 integrates e-mail and (optional) fax support into your applications.

With Alpha Four V8, you can:

Send a report via e-mail using your standard e-mail client (e.g. Outlook, Eudora, etc.) The report will be displayed in the body of the e-mail (rather than as an attachment).

Send a report via e-mail using the special built-in e-mail client in Alpha Four V8. The report will be displayed in the body of the e-mail (rather than as an attachment).

Send a report via e-mail, using your standard e-mail client, as an attached Adobe Acrobat .PDF file.

Send a report as a fax (available only if you purchased the fax support option).

Send mass e-mailings to a list of recipients. Each e-mail can be personalized with information from your database.

Send mass fax broadcasts to a list of recipients. Each fax can be personalized with information from your database (available only if you purchased the fax support option).
The mass customized e-mailing and fax broadcast options are perfect for delivering invoices, thank you letters, solicitations, collection letters, etc. to your customers, or clients.

For example, instead of printing out invoices, and then mailing them individually, you can now completely automate the task, save money on mailing costs, and complete the task in a fraction of the time it would normally have taken.

In order to e-mail or fax a report in V8, you use one of the special printer drivers that V8 makes available. For example, say you want to send a report to someone as an attached PDF file. You simply print the report as you normally would, selecting the Email External PDF printer driver.

NOTE If you have not previously used Alpha Four V7, then please refer to the Whats New in Alpha Four V7 book for information on the Winagent.exe program, and how Alpha Four prints using Windows printer drivers.

NOTE The e-mail features of Alpha Four do not work with AOL e-mail accounts as these are not standard internet e-mail accounts.
      Thank you,
      Mike Konoff
