Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

Re: CSDA Code Utility for A5 - Beta Test Support Thread

A new version, 0.999, has been uploaded late today.

It adds a warning during a CSDA Code utility program update, to close all but the current A5 databases (in other words, no other instances of A5).

It also fixed a bug in the CodeTimer's return type that was always returning a "C" and isolated the codespace of the code being tested from the codespace of the CodeTimer code so that there are even less potential interference between code and tester.

I hope this is the last revision, otherwise I'll have to start going to the next decimal place!:)

A new version, 0.9991, has been uploaded.

It adds a slightly improved internal timing method, with a new dialog box presenting the code timing results and allowing retests. Comments on this new dialog box addition are welcome.

Re: CSDA Code Utility for A5 - Beta Test Support Thread

A new version, 0.9992, has been uploaded.

The A5Desktop Log tables have had some fields added. To take advantage of these, move or rename the A5DesktopLog.* files in the Alpha 5 executable directory. The log files will be automatically recreated with the new structures.

        Improvements include
        • When using a runtime version (which is is not really what this tool is intended for), it now disables opening of objects in design mode
        • Created better Codetimer interface and displays, particularly when running timing of code
        • If an external e-mail client is not present, program tries to trap error and displays data for emailing
        • New diagnostic info screen on Help window
        • Fixed a small Licensing bug
        • Added A5 version, build, addin and edition info to log to track what A5 application was run on.
        • Code timing no longer prompts for parameters when a function has no parameters
        • Code Timing now displays errors when code has failures
        • Code Timing shows % difference between current and previous test

A new version, 0.9993, has been uploaded.

It fixes a bug testing code timing in the Interactive Window that was created in an earlier version during a code improvement

NOTE: The A5Desktop Log tables have had some fields added in version 0.9992. To take advantage of these, move or rename the A5DesktopLog.* files in the Alpha 5 executable directory. The log files will be automatically recreated with the new structures.

Those still wanting to try the CSDA Code Utility should go to the web site to request a trial license.

Thanks to all who participated in the public beta test and sent their comments and bug reports in. I think it helped make a more solid and useful product for the Alpha Community.

I would think the ability to save alternate desktops in both design mode and view mode would save an enormous amount of time for a developer.Picking up on the previous day's development and /or immediately returning to a testing point for an unresolved problem is huge in my mind.

Re: CSDA Code Utility for A5 - Beta Test Support Thread

              Hi John,

It certainly is. Sometimes I'm working on multiple problems from a client (or alternatively multiple clients with problems) and switch around from problem to problem as needed (or when I hit that proverbial wall)!

I can set up desktops for each problem and switch around with ease as I get frustrated on each one:D

But if you ever had a table left open, or a bunch of variables you had to clear, it's nice to be able to restart Alpha and pickup where you left it in seconds.

And as you said, it's nice to pick up where you left the previous day too!
              Regards,

A new version, 0.9994, has been uploaded.

It adds a new feature of automatically installing common 3rd party Apps (example Partec's A5Doc and AIMS App Analyzer, Group Formatter, Script Formatter) as buttons at the bottom of the CSDA Code Utility's Rolldown dialog box. With a little effort, you can add your own buttons as well.
