Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

I once flew to Korea for a 2 hour meeting and then returned. 32 hours+ in the air and 2 hours on the ground. In comparison, you're just talking about a Sunday drive!:D I bet you could probably be back in 24 hours if you've time it right!

It was amazing to see it operate without any changes to my code (a testament to backward compatibility), considering how many less-than-documented A5 functions or methods I use (only as a last resort though).

            Bug report.

            Hi Ira,

using the utility I get attached error messages:
Living in the Netherlands, I use the dutch date format dd-mm-yy. Might that be the problem?
The last one I get when pressing the Bug report button. That's why I post it here...

ok, I see that the filenames are not included. So, the messages appear when:
            1. I press the Update button
            2. Press the Web support button
            3. Press the Save dictionary an data button
            4. Press the Save Dictionary button
            5. Press the Bug report button

            All in the Help window.

What version are your running? If you are not sure, download the current ZIP file from the web page and reinstall. It should be version 0.995. If it's an earlier version, check again with the current version.

Support can also be emailed to me at [email protected]

I can't duplicate your errors by using the Netherlands settings.

The MAPI() error (unless date format related) is probably more controlled by your email client. Can you tell me what is your default mail client and what version of it you are using?

Re: CSDA Code Utility for A5 - Beta Test Support Thread

                  Hi Ren,

I checked the code, and it worked for me with Netherland settings. Nevertheless, I revised the code to be as date format independent as I believe is possible. Try the current 0.996 version (uploaded yesterday) and see how that plays for you.

The Mapi() error does not occur when I run Thunderbird (same version #). Try setting Outlook as your default mail client if you can as one possibility. Also, can Alpha 5 run this code from the interactive editor?

                  ?EMAIL_CLIENT_EXTERNAL("[email protected]","CSDA Code Utility Bug/Tech Support","Message body test","any_file_name_with_path"+CRLF())

One other possibility for a test for both errors is to see if setting to US allows it to work.
                  Regards,

                    Hi Ira,

Thanks! all except the mail works now. I have no time now to go into that deeper, I'll do that tonight.

I found a new issue: I dropped tables from the database but I left them in the folder. When I pressed "Save Dict", I got the message that CSDA would put the tables back in again. That's nice, but not what I want. Is it possible to put a "Yes please / No thank you" option in there?

I tried to duplicate the above message but could not. I believe the message is an Alpha 5 message, not the CSDA Code Utility's. I tried dropping a table and moving a table from windows both with and without restarting A5 and could not get the error. Are you running from a Network Optimized (shadowed) database? If you can give me a procedure that creates the message, I'll see If I can add an option to silence it.

                        Hi Ira,
this is the message I got after pressing "Save Dict"..

I had dropped those tables a couple of days ago. I'm pretty sure that I ran a backup from A5 without getting this, message.

Looking at the message more closely, I see that I forgot to drop a set that depends on these tables. So, in fact, it is a nice warning and action, although I still would like the programm (A5 or yours) not to do this kind of action automatically.

                          Ren,

I will be looking into your set duplication issue. It's not a bug, but I don't like the fact it's changing your adb file. I'm not sure what the best method to approach this issue is yet.

In the meantime, I have uploaded a new version 0.997 that adds a new feature that allows you to click on a button and move forward and back through the A5 windows (sort of like the Windows Alt-Tab).

Also, window logging is now consistent between saves and restores, and Trial versions of A5 (like the upcoming version 8) will now automatically also run trial versions of the CSDA Code Utility

A new version, 0.998, has been uploaded today.

It primarily fixes a bug in the CodeTimer whenever your code used the variable "i", very typical in loops.

It also added some code to minimize the possibility of iterating your code forever, and to more quickly get to an accurate value.

There was also a small bug whenever timing code that was not a function or selected code in the Interactive Window.
                                Regards,
