Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Keep getting the error:"Conflicting expression data types"

    Hi,

    From "PatRec", when I click on "View patient record", this is what I am trying to achieve, when patient lastname is entered, if there is no match, it just exits, if there is one match, it retrieves it, but here is my problem: when there is more than one patients with that lastname, it asks for date of birth and should retrieve it accordingly. However, it keeps giving me the error:"Vie.find(ctod(bdate))", I have tuned the code here and there, made sure my index_set("Birthdate") is defined in the table... but still have no clue why I keep getting this error. Your feedback is much appreciated. Attached is forms and tables needed to see what I am doing. "Vie" is the form that is retrieved... I am sure most of you would know once looking at the code on "View Patient Record".

    Try your attachment again. I find the patient and prescription tables. There is no vie form based on either. When viewing the patrec form based on the patient table, entering a bogus name, there is an error "Vie = form.load("vie").

    Perhaps there is a set upon which vie is based?

    In the code for the button to view patient history I did notice you have

    vie.index_set("Birthdate")

    followed by

    query.filter = ....
    query.order = "Patient_fi+Patient_la"
    ...

    The setting of the query order and running of the query is overriding the index_set(). IOW the form in then in firstname lastname order, not birthdate. Move that line (vie.index_set("Birthdate")) to just before

    Vie.find(ctod(bdate))
    There can be only one.

      Hi Stan,

      Thanks for your reply. Yes, the form vie is based upon a set (I am surprised it's not here!). Your post:"IOW the form in then in firstname lastname order", what does IOW mean? I did move the line (Vie.Index_set("Birthdate")) as you suggested but still got the same error!

          After changing the index for the set with only "Dob" for Order, it didn't give any error, however it didn't point me to the right patient! how can I do this in a way that if there is more than one patient with same lastname, then it would do query based on birthdate? Thanks.

            when there is more than one match you will have to query for the lastname and the birthdate combined to retrieve the correct record. Attach your set and tables (right click on the set in the control panel and zip from there) now that you have gotten rid of the conflicting data types.

            You might try changing

            query.filter = "Dob = ("+var->birthdate+"}"

            to

            query.filter = "Patient_la = "+quote(var->lastname)+".and. Dob = {"+var->birthdate+"}"
            There can be only one.

              Stan,

              I did as you suggested but somehow, it's not querying right!
              As you note in the code under "View Patient Record", there are 2 sets of query, once at the top for Patient lastname and once when there is more than one record (with same lastname). I am wondering if I should have one set of queries instead of 2? The reason I ask this is because it seems that no matter what I put for query.filter and query.order of 2nd section (when qfind>1), it doesn't change its behavior... As always thank you.

                I realized you may need to have the actual set in question, see attached. As you note, when you enter:"Kelly" as patient lastname, it points to the correct record, however, if you enter:"Rosen", after it asks for date of birth, you can either enter:"11/03/1952" or "05/28/1983"... when entering "05/28/1983", you see that it's not pointing to the right birthdate! Thanks.

                  You were/are querying the prescription table for the patient last name and dob, neither of which should be in there. Those fields are patient specific and belong only in the patient table.

                  I changed the patient_re field in the patient table to character type to match the patient_id type in prescription. I changed the linking field for the set to be patient_re <-> patient_id. Never a good idea to use last names (any names) as a linking field.

                  I changed the fields on the vie form to refer to patient table patient_fi, patient_la, dob. I see no reason these should be in the prescription table either.

                  I think my attachment does what you want.
