Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

Query with no records displays old records

My form displays a set, and the top table of the set is displayed in an embedded browse. If I run a saved query that returns zero records I get the warning message "No records were selected", but the browse continues to display the results of the previous query.

If I run a query that does return a number of records, they display properly in the browse.

Any hints as to what's going on?

What would you want to happen? I believe you would have trouble if the form was filtered to display zero records, so Alpha retains the previously viewed records. Depending on how you have gotten this point, you should be able to add something to display all records if the query list is empty.
    There can be only one.

What sort of problems would you expect with no records displayed? I'd be happy, for now anyway, with zero records displayed, if it doesn't create problems.

My situation is I'm running a query based on variables set by check boxes and dialogs. A couple conditional objects change in response to the variables and tell the user how the records are being filtered. (For example, "All Open POs to BERG," where "Open POs" and "BERG" are in conditonal objects controlled by corresponding variables). If the query returns zero records and reverts to the previous query, the variables and conditonal objects are now out of sync.

I've played some with resetting the variables when this expression is true after running the query...
      a5_get_records_in_query("hdr",current_filter_expn()) = 0

Do you have any other suggestions?

Why would you have to reset any variables? I use the a5_get_records_in_query() all the time to probe tables as the very first script event. If the result is 0, ui_msg_box("message","Empty Query") and end script. I am not understanding why any changes would need to transpire upon an empty query if you didn't want them to.

In order to run the query I need to set the variables first, which also changes the query description in the conditional objects on the form. By the time I know the result of the query, the previous values of the variables are gone.

Though it seems those values must still exist somewhere, because when the new query returns 0 records, the result of the old query is displayed in the browse.

The fact that the variables do not match the records displayed in the browse would not be a problem, except that now the query description in the conditional objects is incorrect. I suppose I could make the update of the conditional objects conditional on the result of a5_get_records_in_query(), but that doesn't seem any simpler than temporarily storing the variable values.

Neither option is unreasonably complicated, I was just hoping there was a way to display zero records, and perhaps eliminate the warning dialog.

Ned did you ever get around this issue? I have a very similar situation.

            Thanks

No, I'm living with it for now - as long as I'm the only user it's only an annoyance. But I hope to make a fix eventually, so am still open to suggestions.
