Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Memo fields gone wild..!

In a memo field (or RT memo field), enter the following:
    123-4567
    Save.
Reopen the memo: you will see: 123-4567.

Now, in a new line, enter:
    456-6789
    Save.
    Reopen. Now you see:
    123-4567
    -6789

The memo will trim all numerals before the "-" sign !!
It happens only if the text starts with numerals.

      Hi G,

I am using version 5 and do not see this so maybe a bug in later versions.

I tried it by just using the memo field itself and closing it (saved) and also by using the pop-up and saving...works correctly here on V5.

I cannot replicate the error you're seeing using regular memo fields or with rtf memo fields and vers 7. Please post a working model that illustrates the issue, or give us more specific step by step instructions. -- tom

              Tom:
I am not sure if a zip while will add anything, since if you open it with your version you won't be able to replicate the problem.

              Thanks to all who responded.

I think it has to do with the version I am using. I did not see any point in reporting it as a bug, since as we all know, v8 is around the corner.

                    Just my observations on this.

All is fine at my end.

I fail to see why Gabriel would have any different version to the rest of us.

                    Code:

                    If .not. version 7 then
                          post elsewhere
                         else
                          get latest build
                    end if
then see if it works, otherwise you have a major problem as data is being dropped from you memo fields and you should look at some of the threads regarding backing up these fields.

It should also be reported as a bug as it needs sorting out before it starts affecting a lot of us. If it is not reported it could slip into the forthcomming V8

Create the following text in Word:

                      John Doe:
                      123-4567
                      456-7890

Copy all three lines & paste in a memo field, Save, Re-open.
                      What do you get?

Make another table with a memo field in it and try it there...

I think the problem is limited to one field (or table)...
