Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Filtering Grid Linker

    Hi,

    I have a table where the user logs on. Their Agency Id is trapped upon login with loginid. This follows them through the web pages. It filters the records so the user only sees his/hers records on the web pages without problem. This all works well with grid components on *.a5w pages.

    The problem is I cannot get this functionality with a Grid Linker component. I tried using the help file and the closest I can find is using a session id with invoice numbers. I tried to modify this but it still doesn't work. I also tried the dbf.filter on the a5w page. Still no success.

    How or where do you put the filter for a grid linker on the parent table? Also this field (agency_id) is not a primary key.

    Thanks,
    Dan

    Re: Filtering Grid Linker

    Hi Dan,

    You can override the filter at:

    select the gridlinker>>click the parent grid>>click on edit>>click on override settings tab>>
    "DBF.filter = "yourfield=" + session.yourid"

      Re: Filtering Grid Linker

      Hi Brendo,

      That's sort of what I did, however, it isn't working.

      Here is what I did. I went to Grid Linker. Selected Parent table, selected edit. Pushed the Override settings button.
      entered:
      Code:
      if eval_valid("loginid") then
          dbf.filter = "agency_id=" + quote("loginid")
      end if
      This hasn't done anything. I still get all records. Now if I type in
      Code:
      if eval_valid("loginid") then
          dbf.filter = "agency_id=" + quote("1003")
      end if
      Where the loginid is 1003, it works just like it should. However, not every user is assigned agency_id 1003. Hence my problem.

      Thanks
      Dan

        Hi Dan,

        Is the agency field a numeric type? If so, remove the quote function.

        dbf.filter ="agency_id=" + loginid

          Re: Filtering Grid Linker

          No agency_id is a character field that is in the users login table.

          Thanks for trying to help me with this.

          I even put in the header with a5 brackets ? loginid and that shows up with the proper agency_id depending on who logs in. So the login id is there, I just can't get the gridlinker to filter.

          Thanks again,
          Dan

            strange...maybe the loginid has trailing spaces?
            You could try dbf.filter = "agency_id=" + quote(alltrim(loginid))

              Or...a.quick and dirty method, but very static...and depends how may users you have..

              if loginid = "1001" then
              dbf.filter = "agency_id = '1001'"
              elseif(loginid = "1002") then
              dbf.filter = "agency_id = '1002'"
              elseif(loginid = "1003") then
              dbf.filter = "agency_id = '1003'"
              elseif(loginid = "1004") then
              dbf.filter = "agency_id = '1004'"
              else
              dbf.filter = ""

                That was a good thought. Howerver, didn't work. I then tried the alltrim on both sides of the = mark. Still no go.

                I can't figure it out.

                  Yeah, thought about that, but defeats the purpose and creates more work when new users are added. I just need to walk away from this for a few hours and then come back and try it again.

                  Thanks,

                      Hi Dan,

                      I used this yesterday for a grid linker and it works fine. In my case the code is called from a linking dummy field in another grid:

                      Code:
                      Address_Phones.a5w?Address_Phone_Header_Filter=Address_ID='{Address_ID}'
                      The format is (you probably know this):

                      A5_Page + ? + Target_Grid_Name + _Filter= + Linking_Reference_Field + ='{Linking_Component_Grid_Field}'

                        Dan,

                        In the fine print, it says "specify one property per line", so here's one I use:

                        Code:

                        DBF.filter=if(eval_valid("session.CompanyId"),"Co_Id = "+s_quote(session.Co_Id),"Co_Active")
                        I think your problem is multiple lines.

                          Ok, I can't seem to figure this one out. It's driving me crazy.

                          Attached is a stripped down version. After you publish this, Log on is Dan and password is dan. You will be taken to the Main Menu. On the Main Menu is just one button. That button will take you to the grid linker. It should filter on records only with an agency_id based on the log in user's agency id. At the top of the grid linker on the left is the agency_id. Yet the grid linker does not filter the records.

                          Thanks for your help.

                            Dan,

                            I got it working...

                            You need to make the following changes:
                            In login_test_A, change the loginid assignment line to

                            session.loginid=alltrim(loginid)

                            The server could not find the variable loginid, so you need to make it a session variable.

                            Then, change your gridlinker filter to

                            dbf.filter = "agency_id=" + quote(session.loginid)

                            notice that there are no quotes around session.loginid in the filter

                            That should do it.
