Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    V8 Pre-Release Message Board

Are those of us who have not yet purchased V8 now excluded from the V8 message board? Apparently so, as my latest password is rejecting on that forum.

Only people that have pre-purchased and/or beta testers have access to the v8 pre-release forum. It was an oversight that everyone was temporarily allowed access and we have fixed it.

I have purchased the pre release V8 and had access the message board but do not or have not been issued with a password. How do I get this as I am interested to see all the different viewpoints in relation to V8

What a slap in the face! Does someone think that by not allowing us to see what's happening with V8 that this will force us to spend our money? Quite the opposite with me. I have to figure that this release is so bad that they don't want anyone to know.

              Fixed?

I rather enjoyed reading and learning about what was going on with V8 and was using it as a gauge for determination if I wanted to get involved with V8.

              I suggest it's broken now.

Thanks for the little bit of time I was able to see what was going on.

                BETA

"An incomplete, not fully tested, pre-release version made available to a limited number of people for the purpose of testing / de-bugging".

It stands to reason that numerous bugs will exist in any BETA and no company would want its product judged, until it is officially released.

Alpha has elected to give selected individuals access to V8 in the hope that they will spend their time helping to identify bugs, to ensure a superior final product. One of their choosen criteria was pre-puchasers. Perhaps they felt that these individuals might fall into this category.

The limiting of the V8 pre-release forum to selected users, should not be considered a negative. Rather, an attempt by Alpha to focus their limited resources towards debugging the product quickly and efficiently.

We all know how dedicated the Alpha staff are. Perhaps it would be in our best interest to support them.

                  John,

Although what you stated is true, I see no reason why other members of this forum should not at least be able to "see" what is going on with a version's pre-release or beta. Non-testers, of course, should not be allowed to post. I am also quite sure anyone who has become a member of this forum realize that any new version, especially one that that has not even been released yet, will have its share of bugs and would not judge it based on that.

I, for one, have read EVERY post since becoming a member in order to try to shorten the learning curve and find many things of value in doing so...and that includes "listening" to the pre-release questions the testers have asked as many times they pertain to things that have existed in prior versions.

Besides the aforementioned thoughts, I also believe that by letting other members who are not testers view the posts it would really aid in their determining whether or not they have an interest in obtaining the new version. Along with this is the point that the posts really illustrate what the new features are much moreso than the Alpha advertisements.

                  :-)

To get back to a key issue -

I have pre purchased V8 and was given access to the BETA version. I do not recall getting a special password and am now locked out. Can someone at Alpha "let me in" please?

                        BETA

"An incomplete, not fully tested, pre-release version made available to a limited number of people for the purpose of testing / de-bugging".
                        Thanks for the definition.

It stands to reason that numerous bugs will exist in any BETA and no company would want its product judged, until it is officially released.
This kind of goes without saying.

Alpha has elected to give selected individuals access to V8 in the hope that they will spend their time helping to identify bugs, to ensure a superior final product. One of their choosen criteria was pre-puchasers. Perhaps they felt that these individuals might fall into this category.
I'm fully aware of this. We all want a superior product.

The limiting of the V8 pre-release forum to selected users, should not be considered a negative. Rather, an attempt by Alpha to focus their limited resources towards debugging the product quickly and efficiently.
From my perspective, it certainly IS a negative because I'm interested in the product and now I can't follow what's going on. Besides, how does my ability to get in there and simply read what's going on limit anybodies resources at all??? If anything, it may IMPROVE their resources by sparking the interest in those who haven't pre-purchased to spend the $$ and actually pre-purchase. Now without that access, people may lose interest and not pre-purchase. Then again, maybe they have all the beta-testers they need.

We all know how dedicated the Alpha staff are. Perhaps it would be in our best interest to support them.
Come on John - It sounds like your commenting on something I did not say. Nobody is suggesting anybody at Alpha is not dedicated. At least I'm not. And my interest in V8 most certainly IS support of them. Especially if I spend my money on the product, pre or post release.
                        Thank you,
                        Mike Konoff

                            John,

Personally, I believe that Alpha has every right to have a private (i.e. exclusive) message board for beta, pre-beta, whatever. After all, it's their message board. BUT, once you open it to the public, by accident or not, and then you close the door - you risk offending and alienating your customer base - those who are on the "outside" so to speak. They would be better off opening it up again.

                              I completely agree.

Although if they do decide to keep this and future beta messageboards private I now know what I will be missing in regard to the information that is presented in such a board! :-) Sort of wish they had not made this mistake in the first place!
