Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    2 Conditonal Objects

    Greetings all,

I am wanting to put 2 conditonal objects on a form that sit on top of each other. Based upon a value in a browse, I want to display either conditional object1 or conditional object2. This all works fine if the objects are not on top of each other.(the logic is correct) Once I place the objects on top of each other I can only see the object that starts off on "top" in the order. In other words, even if the top object is instructed to hide based on the logic (which it does do) - it is still on the form and but it is not "transparent" which would then allow the other conditonal object below to show.

    Anyone have any ideas?

    Regards,

    Jeff

    Jeff:
Anything that comes within the geographical area of a CO, becomes part of the CO, hence, you cannot overalp two CO's as one will become part of the other.

This begs the question: why two CO's?
Why not add whatever conditions in the second CO as more panes in the first CO?

      Gabriel,

I guess I don't see how to had "more panes" in the first CO. I can see where you can add additional logic in the properties area of the CO but I am missing "the light" on how to show either one of two objects using one CO.

Can you point me in the direction a little more?

      Regards,
      Jeff

        Re: 2 Conditonal Objects

Co will have panes or windows in addition to the default one. Each will show if a certain condition is met. If none of the conditions are met, the default window will show.

Instead of two CO's, take those conditions from the second CO and add them as other conditions to the first CO.

              Re: 2 Conditonal Objects

Thanks for the advice Al. I should have done that before since I have received so much help from others who have posted here. It is wonderful that Alpha has such a great resource in this message board and all those who take the time to make it what it is.

That being said. I did find the conditonal object a little obtuse to use at first but it is quite easy once you see how it works. Very slick on Alpha's part actually!

Here is my solution/guidance on using the conditional object on a form to show more than one set of fields/objectsi(i.e. more than one condition). I started out wanting to use 2 conditional objects and hide them selectively because it was not readily apparent that I could do it with one. As I mention in one of the attachments. The conditonal object is really just like putting tabs on a form. With each tab showing different things. Just set the condition for each "state" (and give a name to each "state") of the conditional object in the properties. Close the properties dialog and then right click on the conditional object you have placed on the form and choose the name of the state you want to work with. Just drag the fields you want to the object. Repeat for the other "states" of the conditional object and you're good to go.

Attached are some screen shots that show the process.

              Regards,

              Jeff
