    Default Web Service and SOAP

Has anyone had any experience having an Alpha Five application (desktop or WAS based) exchange information with another application over the web via Web Service (W3C), XML and SOAP? Those with such experience won't need it, but here are two links that explain some of this:
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Web_service
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/SOAP

I have a need to do this (I won't try to further define "this" right yet). I know we have http_fetch(), http_get() and http_post() and that they are relevant here. I just hope someone knows a whole lot more and can provide some examples of how to produce an XML based request. Of course then there is the issue of doing something useful with the XML based response from the web service server.

Because this is applicable to both desktop and web apps, I am posting this to both places.

I'm still stuck in V5 so, when I needed to code a Web electronic claims functionality, I was stuck because the HTTP functions in V5 can't handle https transfers.

The web service I am communicating with (EMDEON) is well documented, so I was able to sidestep all the HTTP issues by using an external program (cURL, free download, open source etc) to handle the communications. I create a cmd file that contains the code for each transaction and redirect the responses to text files which I can then parse. So far I'm submitting claims and downloading transaction reports without any problem.

Not exactly what you were after, I suppose, but a possible approach. If/when we go to V8, I'll probably take a stab at it using the HTTP methods.
