Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Week and Month Calculation Problems - How to????

    I am having some problems trying to figure this out and have been beating my head against the wall with this problem. I have been looking through posts and have not been able to find anything relating to this.

    For a report I am writing I need it to calculate months based on weeks not on days of the month.
    Example:
    1/1/07 - 2/3/07 all counts as January because the week starts in January
    2/4/07-3/3/07 all counts as Feb
    Etc.

    I have a report working on the week and on the year part but I am trying to break it down by Month as well using the above example.

    Is there a way to do this?

    Casy

    Have you looked at the week_iso functions?

    http://support.alphasoftware.com/alphafivehelp/Functions/WEEK_ISO_FULL().htm

    Does that work in your situation?

      I was just looking at the WEEK_ISO function. It looks like this will work but how can I get it to break on months? or only show for the current month?
      I am still new to this and trying to figure out the coding more.

        You may have to add another table that translates each week to the month that you want it in.

        Not sure. Perhaps others have another idea.

          You can create a function that returns the "previous Monday" for any date not a Monday.

          Code:
          FUNCTION premonday AS D (somedate AS D )

          	Select
          		Case dow(somedate) = 1
          			premonday = somedate -6

          		Case dow(somedate) = 2
          			premonday = somedate

          		Case dow(somedate) = 3
          			premonday = somedate - 1

          		Case dow(somedate) = 4
          			premonday = somedate - 2

          		Case dow(somedate) = 5
          			premonday = somedate - 3

          		Case dow(somedate) = 6
          			premonday = somedate - 4

          		Case dow(somedate) = 7
          			premonday = somedate - 5

          	End Select

          END FUNCTION
          Then the report would break on month(premonday(yourdatefield))

              Stan: This looks like it will work but I do not know where to put the function code. Sorry for being so ignorant.

              Gabriel: These are from the same field - Datereceiv

                I am assuming:
                a-You want to "group" the report by months
                b-The field where these values come from is a date field

                Create a group in your report and use the following expression:
                if(Datereceiv-month_start(Datereceiv)<=6,month(Datereceiv)-1,month(Datereceiv))

                  You create the function on the code page of the control panel. You can right click, choose new, then function.

                  Fill in the function name, premonday
                  Choose the return type, date
                  In the top left name box, enter somedate
                  Next to that in the type box, choose date
                  Press the top right OK button

                  When the editor appears, paste in the code as suggested. You only need pase in the part between

                  Function

                  End Function

                  When saved, the function can be used anywhere in your database.

                  Alternatively you can save the attachment function file locally. Right click in the code page, choose Import, navigate to the saved file, open and import.
