Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

how many calc fileds or error?

    Re: how many calc fileds or error?

    Dave:
    It is impossible for anyone, except you, to assess the validity of these calculations since you have the benefit of having all the fields and their references and meanings, and zipping a db like this does not sound practical either.

    So, here is a more practical solution:
    Having all these calc fields seem like a lot and could very well be confusing, if not now, soon.

    Instead of those calc fields, create variables and place them on the report exactly where the calc fields are.

    In the Onprint event, write a simple script:
    If reverse="N"
    variable1="cdl"
    variable2="dl"
    ...
    etc.
    That way you could get rid of all of these calc fields that depends on the value of "revese"

      I am think like you in the script, but making variables that will go on the report because a lot of my calcs are fine. I could just put in the money parts for the script. I think it should run on report init for this.

      I did find a couple of things that might cause a problem if my determination of what are calc fields and what are table fields is correct.

      Code:
      diff	Calc->Mprice2-Tradetotalallow
      should be

      Code:
      diff	Calc->Mprice2-[COLOR="Red"]Calc->[/COLOR]Tradetotalallow
      Code:
      mfinanced	(Calc->Eagletotal+Tradetotallien)-(calc->Tradetotalallow+Deposit+Reb1+Reb2+Reb3+Reb4+Gmcardamt+Cashondel)
      should be

      Code:
      mfinanced	(Calc->Eagletotal+[COLOR="Red"]Calc->[/COLOR]Tradetotallien)-(calc->Tradetotalallow+Deposit+Reb1+Reb2+Reb3+Reb4+Gmcardamt+Cashondel)
      There can be only one.

        stan,

        Thanks for joining in here!

        I agree. Some of those, infact all of those were changed and some more to no avail.

        Let me say again, The report works fine and prints as it should. I am relegated to changing the calc fields by clicing on the field on the report and then editing from there. If I open the calc screen with all the calcs on it, they disappear as soon as I close it.

        diff and mfinanced are not affected. diff is the price of the vehicle with the trade removed to show on the report.

        mfinanced is intricate.

          Can you copy the application to another directory and empty the tables so we can have a look and do some experimentation. (Attaching a zip of the empty app here.) The functionality of the report editor should not be disturbed by the lack of data.

            Re: how many calc fileds or error?

            I rewrote all the calc fields, emptied the ones not totally necessary, went from 50 to 39 fields, made sure all was working and printed a report.

            It now saves and prints properly with all the math correct.

            I still don't know what one thing was wrong!

              Al,

              I made one very simple conditional object, place it on the report and the report will not preview. I left the computer running for 20 minutes to test it. When i removed the conditional object, all was fine.

              I think I don't want some of those.

                Without seeing what you did with the C/O, it's difficult to comment. But the results aren't consistent with the good results that I've had.

                Wanna post what you did?

                  I juust did one on a form and it worked real well. Stan Mathews helped me through it. I suspect(KNOW) I did it wrong on the report.

                  Thanks

                    It's easy to get the wrong concept and travel down the wrong road.

                    But Stan knows how to get us back on the right road. He's had lots of practice.
