Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

Videos - Great - Wish there were more

    The videos are excellent.

I wish there were more. In the .NET world, there's a guy who did videos of just about Every topic you'd need. You could literally do all your initially learning with them. I initially learned .NET like that years ago.
When 2.0 came out, he did videos and Microsoft actually bought the rights and posted them at the Express site.

I wish someone would do that for Alpha web app development.
For $, of course, but low $. :)

I should do this. I spent $400 on a professional microphone and Camtasia for web recording, and they are just gathering dust.

                Hey Ray:

I agree if there were video I would join too. So Steve get to work and start making them. I will join for a lifetime for $99.00.

I have a few suggestions for topics for all of us newbies especially working with the web.

Thanks for all the suggestions and keep me in the loop if anything should develop.

                      Hi Steve,
I encourage xbasic & web development. I must refer you to see http://www.valar.com as a sample. This is done in a old data base called filepro plus. The gentleman who created the videos is legally blind & a amazing man.
                      Hope you do this

                        Hi Steve,

Count me in. I'll subscribe - gladly.

I'd like to see a desktop / web integration project from start to finish.

                          Steve,

I think the place to start is from the belief that the users/viewers have a baseline working knowledge of the Desktop application, with knowledge of database structure, tables, forms, some degree of scripting and such. And for many, like myself, the instruction to create a crossover to generate a web-based component for presentation/interaction with a desktop application/data is where I would like to see it go.

Depending on the price you can count me in. What examples you make : all are welcome to me, because I have not really started with Alpha though I bought V5 already in 2004!!. Reason ? No time to read tutorials or other manuals for learning new tool and a lot to do with my current tool, so videos will be of great use for me.

I'll throw 2 cents in on what to cover.
                              This is just one view.

I think the key to future growth of this software is in Web App development.
So, I think the videos should be web centric.

                              - Start with desktop basics, just to be able to show people aspects of table setup, validation rules, etc.
                              - Then walk step by step through all topics related to web development
