Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

You need the Enterprise versions for both products to use SQL backend.

Re: Do I need the Enterprise version???

Just great!! I bought the wrong version! I called and called Alpha and no one would answer the phone. Then I received a call back, left a voice mail and we played phone tag for a day and I still could not get them to answer the phone. Without the Sql backend I just wasted a lot of money for nothing. I can do everything I need with the previous versions of Alpha5.

The new website for Alpha stink! It is had to find the product comparison to make find the right product.

I wont wast any more money on upgrades from now on.

Relax. Get in touch with Sales and they will probably take care of you. Calling ANY company these days takes a bit of work. If you were playing telephone tag, that means that you also were not 100% available.

Also go to http://www.alphasoftware.com/about/contact.asp select Order Information from the category and send them a message.

Fred, Three clicks from the home page takes you to your answer. Store -> Alpha Five -> Help Choosing and About Licensing and Different Editions Quick, logical and answers all your questions. If you are difficult to reach as well, why don't you send an email to Sales at Alpha and setup a time that works for you both. I know they will look after you and help reduce your blood pressure a little.

            Hi Doug,

No, it really doesn't give much info. I was under the impression the Enterprise edition is needed to connect with database wharehouse, etc. but it would not be needed to import a simple Excel file. There is nothing which clearly addresses these issues. There should be!

My point is simply this; there needs to be an easy to view and understand chart which clearly shows the differences of the versions. It would save Alpha's customer support and Alpha's customers a whole lot of frustration?

I know Selwyn, Richard and the Alpha crew work hard to satisfy their customers. They WILL be fair and treat their customers right. That doesn't mean we can take advantage of the situation. We must be reasonable. They have worked hard to create a fabulous product putting in long, long hard hours. In the end, we are blessed to have such a dedicated staff at Alpha.
