Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

Print a report based on the selected checkbox records

    Hi,

I have a grid that displays the list of results from a search. The first field in each result has a checkbox to enable the user to select that record. The user is able to select one or many of the records from the list. All i want to do is print a report based on the selected checkbox records.

I have tried many options, but cannot get this to work.

    Any help will be appreciated.

    Denis

Have you taken a look at example 1.14 that is included in the sample web application? It sounds like it does exactly what you want.

Re: Print a report based on the selected checkbox records

I have fully investigated this option, but it appears to only work as a read only grid. I am attempting to update the table based on the checkbox selected. I therefore assume i need to use the checkbox field as the selection, so that a 'T' will be inserted in the table, then the report is printed (PDF Created) showing only the checked records.

Im sure this must be possible, but cannot seem to work out how?

Re: Print a report based on the selected checkbox records

Hi there. I still might not understand what you are trying to do, but if the only thing you are wanting to accomplish with the results of your search is to print a report for the checked records in the grid (ie. not updating any of the fields in the grid), then the example 1.14 from the web should work for you.

I just finished doing this myself. The grid is indeed read-only, but there are two things that make this work in spite of the fact that the grid is read-only. First, in the field you put the checkbox - set that field as label (not checkbox), then go down a little farther in the field definition where it says freeform layout - check that, then it will open up the freeform template. In there put something like this:
            Code:
            <input type="checkbox" name="cust_id[]" value="{Customer_Id}">
That will place the checkbox into the field, even though you defined it as label.

The second thing that makes this work, is that in the .a5w page, you place an HTML form around the grid itself. The buttons on the form are what utilize the freeform checkbox you defined. In the web_applications_demo, the CustomerGridLabels.a5w will show you how to do this. Then printlabel.a5w (which is called when the button you defined is pushed) will give you an example of how to dump the cust_id[] array that you defined in the freeform template into a filter for your report.

If I'm still not understanding exactly what you want to accomplish, I'm sorry! I just wanted to make sure you knew the tricks for making the checkbox thing work - because it's a great tool for selecting records for reports!

Re: Print a report based on the selected checkbox records

Thanks Megan but I am fully aware how example 1.14 works. As i said in my earlier post, i need to update the table based on the items checked, then print the report with only the items checked displayed.

This must be possible in alpha surely.

I have been trying to achieve this for 12 months now. I must be missing something pretty major. Any help will be really appreciated.

                    Denis:

Just a quick thought. If you are actually updating data into a table it should not be difficult to construct a filter to use with a report. Question - when these records are flagged by the check box, can they be identified so as to filter them in a report?

You will have to use some xbasic to accomplish this but it should not be difficult. Using event programming you can make this all happen.

                      Thanks Steve.

I kind of got around the problem by redirecting the results to another page and running the report from there.
