Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

Issues Trying to get Web Server Setup

    Greetings,

I finally got to this project, months later than planned and I have run into a few snags that I am hoping someone here will be able to identify quickly.

I have the following components, installed...

I have a LinkSys BEFSX41 Broadband Firewall Rounter at the head of my INet connection...
I have Port Forwarding setup for Apache (port 80) and A5V7 WAS (port 8080)...
    I have Apache 2.0.59 installed...
I have AlphaFive V7 with a License for external use...
I also have V8 WAS, licensed, too.
I have the Apache Module, too...

I AM NOT TRYING TO RUN v7 and V8 AT THE SAME TIME !!
But my results are the same for both V7 and V8 so I am consistant there...

    When I type:
    ------------
    http://localhost
I get the Apache Initial Page, the one that says don't call Apache Org cause you are getting this page...

    http://localhost/[index | index.a5w | index.html] ' one of these without: [|]
    I get a 404-Page Not Found Error

    http://localhost/AlpahFiveAdmin/Status
Returns the status page, although the Alpha Logo (graphic image) does not show up, only the infamous little red [x] in the upper left corner...

    http://localhost:8080
Gets me to the A5 Application, that I would expect to get to with the initial http://localhost command.

The initial page is: index.a5w ...

I presume it is an error in the httpd.conf file, but I am not sure what I should be looking for... anybody more familiar with the Apache Server and this type if Virtual Host setup that could point me in a specific direction would be most appreciated. Initally, I am only trying to get a single domain working, however there will be several VHost sites once this actually works as it should.

    Regards,
    Keith

Re: Issues Trying to get Web Server Setup

    Hi Keith

From the information you have given the results you are getting is what I would expect. When using HTTP, port 80 is the default port for receiving requests from all standard web browsers. If you configured your browser to use port 8080 it would open your Alpha5 website.
You will have to specify the port in the URL such as http://server:8080/index.a5w to point to the WAS server.

    Hope this helps

    Regards

    Jeff

Jeff, that's only correct for his test to localhost. The purpose of running Apache in front of Alpha is to listen on port 80 (and 443) and redirect traffic to whatever port Alpha is configured for. You can get to www.mysite.com, without appending the port, even if Alpha is running on port 8080.

Keith, I am now imtimately familiar with the httpd.conf file and have helped other set it up. Don't bother testing to localhost, configure your virthost statements and test from a browser from a machine outside of the firewall.
