Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Panel Madness - or ???

Again, maybe it's just me. See image below. First I open the Code Library, then from the menu I opened the xbasic explorer - and look what you get. Is that the way it's supposed to be? Doesn't seem right? Or maybe that's the way it is and I have to get used to it?

Adding insult to injury - I can't close the Code Library - even when I force closed the Code Editor. Image below shows form view (not even edit view) and Library won't shut up! Again - is it me?

I think there are still some issues with the code library. It also is not available from the expression editor. You can save to it but not access anything in it. Hopefully the code library is on the list for the next patch.

They fixed it in the latest patch. See image.

          Very nice - and thanks.

Latest build, 1334-3063 and it still doesn't work on mine. Go the the expression builder and let me know if you can access the code library.

No, not from the expression editor. Are you supposed to be able to from there?

Russ, we have been through this in private emails on several occasions. There is NOT any issue with the code library in the expression builders. At the time I wrote to you, you replied saying that you understood my reply, so I am quite surprised to see you bring this up again.

The expression builder does NOT use the 'code library' - it uses 'expression libraries'. You CANNOT save to the code library from the expression editor. You CAN save to the expression library and you CAN retrieve from the expression library as well by pressing the F9 (Library Entry key).

Them I am missing something. The 2 screenshots show

                  1. the expression library in v8 imported from v5.
                  2. the expression library in v8 from the expression builder.

The one obtained from F-9 in expression builder is empty, whether I select local or global. (well there is one entry in local so that's not entirely true)
The one from v5 has other things in it that I cannot get to from the expression builder. Perhaps it is a misunderstanding of terms, but what I am seeing is not what I expect. I guess I could copy the expressions from the v5 library to the one in the expression builder but what is the new expression library for if not to use in the expression builder?

Sorry to be so dense, but this doesn't seem logical.

Re: Panel Madness - or ???

I think a further explanation would clarify my previous post.
When v8 imported the code library from v5 (or maybe it was 6 or 7) it created a new style dockable code library and a dockable expression library. The expression library contained the expressions from v5. I assumed, incorrectly, that this was the new expression library.
When I pressed F9 for expression library in the expression builder it brought up an empty expression library, so again I assumed, incorrectly that I could only copy to it. (there was nothing in it to copy out) Hence the confusion.

In reading the documentation it is clear that the expression library is accessed using F9 from the expression builder.
Sorry about the confusion. I still am not clear as to where the dockable expression library came from but it is clear now that it is only for the code editor. (That might be an enhancement to have the expression builder use the dockable expression library rather than duplicating the expressions.)

Re: Panel Madness - or ???

Bottom line, I have a new style dockable expression library that the expression builder can't access that was imported on install (I guess, not sure how else it got there) and the old style one, with nothing in it. Not sure why this is, but you can see it in the screenshots. This was very confusing to me. According to the docs, it's supposed to be the old style. I'll convert the data over and forget about it.
