Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

AlphaDAO Filtering Grid with Session Variable

    Hello All,

When I specify a Clt_Id in the filter expression of the grid component, the grid is properly filtered as shown in the attached screen-shot.

I need to have the grid filtered based on the value of a protected session variable.

FWIW, I have tested for the presence and value of this variable and it does exist and it does hold the appropriate value.

In my mind, the filter expression would look something like...

    Clt_Id = session.__protected__dm_account_num

or possibly since this is an SQL database...

    "Clt_Id = " + "'" + session.__protected__dm_account_num + "'"

I've hammered on different variations of this filter expression including adding Var-> to the above examples to no avail.

The help files give an example of how to accomplish this when using a .dbf and .ado data source by modifying the code that is on the a5w page containing the grid component, but nothing specific for AlphaDAO.

In either case, I thought that V8 was going to eliminate the need to create components and then modify them in the a5w page they are placed on.

Any help that can be offered would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks

    Louis

Re: AlphaDAO Filtering Grid with Session Variable

For the benefit of anyone who might experience this problem, here's a copy of the bug report I submitted on this issue and Aarons response.

His suggestion worked perfectly. This was not a bug. It was more related to my (mis)understanding of how to properly use session variables within arguments...

      Bug Report
      Alpha Five Version (Registered): 8
      Build: 1269
      Addins: 3059

Operating System: Microsoft(R) Windows(R) Server 2003, Standard Edition
      Service Pack 1

      Bug Description:

Argument defined based on session.__protected__dm_account_num returns 0
records in grid. See Argument Definition.png

This grid is based on an AlphaDAO connection to a SqlAnywhere database.

The WHERE clause of the SQL SELECT statement that was generated by Alpha5
      is shown in Current Setting.png.

If I override the SELECT statement while in the process of adding the grid
component to the a5w page with a modified WHERE clause (shown in Where
Clause That Works.png) then the query runs properly and the grid displayes
      the resulting records.

      Aaron's Response
      Louis,

I believe the problem may be that you are specifying "session." in your
variable name. This should be unnecessary, since you have told the
argument definition that it is a session variable. Try naming the
variable just __protected__dm_account_num (without the "session.") in
the argument definition and let me know if that works better for you.

If it doesn't work any better, we can debug this further.

      Thanks,
      Aaron

Re: AlphaDAO Filtering Grid with Session Variable

        Hi,

Do I understand the problem was solved by removing the 'session.' ?

I'm just not clear if this now is solved for you or not...I would like to know because I would like to change all my current pages to go against an Oracle DB instead of the DBF.

        regards, Ron

          Ron,

          Yes, you are correct.

If you take a look at the two attached screen-shots, the first shows what I was doing wrong and the second shows the correct way.
