Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Duplex Printing of Report

    Hi,

Currently I print a two seperate reports, just the header no detail section.
In the script the first report is printed and then the user is told to turn the page over and re-insert to the printer ie. both sides of page are printed on. There can be as many as 90 reports printed at one time so this current action has become a real pain.
I have purchased a Duplex printer to try to ease this problem, trouble is I can't get my head around how to format the report so that both are printed on one sheet of paper.

    Any help is appreciated.

    Re: Duplex Printing of Report

    Barry,

I would have printed 90 copies, then turned them all over and print the 2nd side. This is the fastest way to duplex

However, there are a couple of approaches you could take within Alpha.
    • Create 2 pdf reports, append them together and then print 90 times within Alpha
    • Create 1 report that print's both pages. This might have to be done with a subreport on the 1st report of the 2nd report, and make sure the subreport print's on the break.

      Re: Duplex Printing of Report

      Ira,

Thanks for the reply. I had not given the PDF option a thought but will give a it a go if I can automate the process with xbasic.
The reason I didn't like printing 90 reports and then turning the pages over and printing again was when having been through a Laserjet once the paper has a tendancy to curl a little thus causing jams. As a temporary work
around I increased the report height and placed the 2nd report below the 1st report with a suitable margin between and went to Overflow data and picked print overflow data on seperate pages.

      Thanks again
      Regards

Depending on your paper and Laserjet, there are things one can try to eliminate the curl.
        • Use the Straight-thru printing path if possible
        • Most papers have marked on their wrapping a preferred side to print 1st. Try that, and if it doesn't work, try starting the other way
        • Use a better grade of paper
        • Flip the 2nd side end-to-end (in other words print 2nd side starts printing from the bottom - you may have to set some duplex options to print essentially with a 180 degree rotation)

          Ira,

Just goes to show what I know about paper and Laserjets.:)
The other reason I wanted a one pass duplex option was that the script goes on to print another report, however looking at your support for this forum you are one smart cookie.
          Thanks
