Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Dosadi EZTwainX ActiveX Control

This thread is a followup to one of my previous questions about capturing photos from a scanner or webcam. The responses were great and I found and downloaded the Dosadi ActiveX Control.

I installed the trial software to F:\Program Files\EZTwainX

According to the alpha support presentation by Dr. Peter Wayne I performed the command "regsvr32 "F:\Program Files\EZTwainX" to register the control.

One bug fix to the instructions is that before you declare:
    EZTwain = ole.create("dosadi.eztwain,1")

I had to use "Dim EZTwain as P" to get it to work.

In Alpha 5 I am able to use the OLE Automation Object Browser to select the control and view all of the properties and methods.

In interactive mode I am able to initialize the control and attach to my webcam, and utilize the features of the control.

What I cannot do is place the activex control onto a form. I open a form and then select to add an activex control from the toolbox. A dialog box appears with all of the available activex controls that are available to add to the form and the control is NOT listed.

    What am I missing?

    Barry

Below is the code I use to "Set up" a scanning session. The one change I noticed from Dr. Wayne's article is the class name is different as I recall.
Notice the difference in the class name has a "X" at the end.

    "dosadi.eztwainx.1" instead of "dosadi.eztwain,1"

    Code:
    '******************
    DELETE EZTwain
    DIM EZTwain as P
    DIM EZTwain.object as P
    DIM EZTwain.class as C = "dosadi.eztwainx.1"
    EZTwain.object.apptitle = "Your Program Name"
EZTWain.object.licenseKey=XXXXXXXXXX ' obtained from Dosadi not needed for trial
DIM ScanType as C = default "Black and White"
    DIM vonetwo as C
    DIM scannum as n
vonetwo="One sided" 'Default setting for radio button
    Regards,

    Jeff

      Re: Dosadi EZTwainX ActiveX Control

It's amazing how 1 missing letter messes up the whole program. When I was writing code in Foxpro, this was much more prevelent because you had to write so much more code.

But since I am still learning Alpha, I find it harder to find coding errors because I don't know the ins and outs yet. Hopefully it will come to me shortly.

There were a couple of typos in the example presented, and I find it disheartening that something that has been published for a while hasn't been fixed.

Thanks for the quick reply. I still have some hair left!

        Sure thing Barry.

I just noticed you had a comma after eztwain as well so there were probably a couple of things going on.

        "dosadi.eztwain,1"
In Dr. Wayne's defense, he is widely known as one of the best Alpha minds around so I have no doubt the Dosadi ActiveX control was named as it was in his article at the time he wrote it.

BTW, I too come from the Foxpro world. I am loving Alpha.

        Jeff

Has anyone been able to figure out why this control doesn't show up in the list of ActiveX controls to put it on a form?

            Re: Dosadi EZTwainX ActiveX Control

It's probably the way that the A5V8 form control initializes itself. It shows up right away in the V9 form designer but not in V8.

In V8, when you drag the ActiveX control on to the form and the list appears, click "Refresh List" and you should see it then.

Finian, I am using V9 but it doesn't show up in the list of ActiveX comtrols. It show up in Object Explorer & I can access it via Interactive mode but it's not showing inthe list of ActiveX controls. I have registered it with regsvr32.

Edit: never mind - forgot to refresh - it's there now.

                  Hi Marcel,
I follow the post and manage to have an activex object on my form.
on the init of that form, i make it to fire up to acquire picture from Webcam,
i discover that the live webcam picture is actually not being display within the activex object, but rather some kind of default logitech's dialog.

the finally have the picture on my form.

Is there a way to have the live webcam picture on the form itself?
                  Also, i have to use

EZTwain.choosesystemtwaindevice() everytime, kind a pop up
while my pc only have one device at all time, which is the Webcam

where can i inject such statement to allow me to alway select webcam
or say the first device on the list etc?

                  Your comment is greatly appreciated.

                  thanks

                    Ken,

It took a long time. Don't know if you solved it already.

There is a EZTWAIN system wide property EZTwainX.DefaultSourceDevice = "type_name_of_source_device" and set EZTwainX.SourceDevice = "". Its default value is "" which tells EZTwainX to use the system-wide default TWAIN device.
