Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    I need help with scripting

    I am having some difficulting creating scripts that will actually work. What I need to be able to do is first, find duplicates. Second, I need to sort by word count. If anyone has the scripts that will do this, or can send me a sample of a script, I would greatly appreciate this.

    Thanks in Advance,

    Re: I need help with scripting

    Hi Alex,

    Here is a script that I wrote for a customer that looks at a table and if a record exists does a action

    Code:
    dim recount as n
    recount = 0
    tbl_dest = table.open("nsn_new",FILE_RW_EXCLUSIVE)
    tbl_src = table.open("esof_gr_file",FILE_RW_EXCLUSIVE)
    a_tbl = table.open("battery_main")
    tbl_dest.index_primary_put()
    tbl_src.index_primary_put()
    'Julie this next line tells the program to go through the table untill it gets to the last record
    while .not. tbl_src.fetch_eof()
    ' Here I am looking at the table ESOF_GR_FILE and setting the variables
        tdid = 	tbl_src.eval("Transaction_Id")
        tnsn =	             tbl_src.eval("Nsn")
        tserial =	tbl_src.eval("Serial_No")
        tunit =	tbl_src.eval("Unit_Desc")
        tqty =	             tbl_src.eval("Quantity")
        tbay =	tbl_src.eval("Bay")
        tRow =	tbl_src.eval("Row")
        tTier =	tbl_src.eval("Tier")
        tBin =	             tbl_src.eval("Bin")
        tdate =	tbl_src.eval("Date_Applied")

    isinfile =              tbl_src.eval(alltrim("nsn"))
    appok = ""

    'This line looks for variable var->isinfile in the table NSN_NEW and sets the Variable "innew" to true or false
    [B]innew = exist(var->isinfile,"nsn_new","Nsn")[/B]
    'This if statement set the status field in ESOF_GR_FILE if the variable var->isinfile does not exist in NSN_NEW

    if innew = .f. then
           tbl_src.change_begin()
           tbl_src.Status = "f"
           tbl_src.change_end(.t.)
    else

    [B]'This next if else statement checks the table Battery_Main to see if the Link field is already in the table if it
    'is then set Status field in ESOF_GR_FILE to "e" if it is not then set field to "p" and set the Variable appok to "y"

           isinmast = tbl_src.eval(alltrim("Link"))
           inmast = exist(var->isinmast,"battery_main","Battery")
           if inmast = .t. then[/B]
             tbl_src.change_begin()
             tbl_src.Status = "e"
             tbl_src.change_end(.t.)
           else
             tbl_src.change_begin()
             tbl_src.Status = "p"
             tbl_src.change_end(.t.)
             appok = "y"
           end if
    end if

    ' Julie this is where we update the master table "battery_main"
    if appok = "y"
        a_tbl.enter_begin()
        a_tbl.Transaction_id = tdid
        a_tbl.Nsn = tnsn
        a_tbl.Serial_no = tserial
        a_tbl.Unit = tunit
        a_tbl.Quantity = tqty
        a_tbl.Bay = tbay
        a_tbl.Row = trow
        a_tbl.Tier = tTier
        a_tbl.Bin = tbin
        a_tbl.Date_received = tdate
        a_tbl.enter_end(.t.)
        recount = recount + 1
    end if
    ' Julie if this is not the end of the table we go bakup and go through the code again
    tbl_src.fetch_next()
    end while
    tbl_src.close()
    tbl_dest.close()
    a_tbl.close()

    I hope this Helps

    Sorry about the formating of the code but it seems to have lost in copy an past

        Alex -
        If you haven't discovered this yet...Andy provided you a script for Alpha 5, not Alpha 4 Version 6. Perhaps this is what you wanted and you posted your question in the wrong forum. Needless to say, an Alpha 5 script will not work in Alpha 4.

          John,

          Thanks for the advice. I did not realize that was an Alpha5 script. I was just about to try it out, you saved me the trouble.
