Multiple answer table lookup

I have created a Invoice form for selling of valves. I created a browse for invoice items with the following fields:
Item Number
QTY
Partnumber
Price
SerialNumbers (field rules, table lookup)

If Item 1 has a qty of 5, I would like to select 5 different serial number that correspond with the partnumber and the valves that will be sold. (Each valve has a unique serial number.)

I set up a table look up for that field to be able to select serial number. Is there a way that I can select more than one for that one field?

Yes, but you are describing uniqueness. If each item is unique by a serial number, I think you are going to have to have it as an itemized individual item with a serial number field so it come out as:

Invoice_no....item_no.....part_no.....serial_no.....price

with 5 listings.

If you only want one listing for the item number-partnumber, then a child table with a 1-Many set can hold the values of the serial number. For this I might think about a concatenated field = invoice number + part number.

Parent:  Invoice_no....item_no.....part_no....inv_part....Quantity.....price
                                                 II
Child:                                         inv_part.....part serial_no

There are likely other ways.

is there a portion of the serial number that is always the same?

If the first 8 digits are always the same, you could have a search on the first 8 or have an exra field that is calculated when the valve is inserted into the valve table as your lookup field. This is just another way, but I use it in the auto industry

Example: all ford falcon 2 drs 6 cyls started vin number with 2xgt435x, so I do my lookup on the first 8 of the vin and get the vehicle to pop up.

sounds like the VIN for cars is like a concatenated part number(car type) and serial number. Interesting.

Part of my vinlook.dbf. It holds a lot of history.
