Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

      Howdy. Where do you set "how many records display"? Thanks.

        Re: Embedded browse & disappearing records

        hi:

        it is the total number of records in the table. you don't set it per-se.

        the issue arises if you have too few records in the table to completely fill the browse. either adding more records or making the browse smaller will get rid of the problem. i sent a bug report with an easy to recreate instruction.

          Re: Embedded browse & disappearing records

          Newbie here. Not sure if this is related to the above. I made a browser from a set. ContactID is the link field. Event - oninit has a request to enter a date from the child table and an activate form/browser function. When I run the browser I get a blank browser. If I click in any field and then pgup the data appears as required. I then added a quick sort to the onint functions and when I run the browser the data is correctly displayed without haveing to click and pgup. Choose any field to sort on, parent or child ..... it will only sort on the link field ie contacID. Comments on all the above appreciated.

          I added an Event - onRowDblClick but dble clicking any row from the child fields, results in a sort on contactID. Dble clicking any row from the parent table sorts that row correctly. ????

          Although my default printer is set to landscape, I cannot preview the browser in landscape layout. If I set the print to landscape, it does print in landscape. How can I fix this?

            Hi Richard,

            You might consider submitting this as a new thread or post. It may gain a quicker answer as there are over 70 posts on this thread. Additionally, it makes searching a bait easier in that the responses to your question are in a thread specific for your problem. If I did a search and came up with this thread, I would not want to sift through all the stuff in this thread thatg is unrelated.

            OK, that said, welcome to A5 and the forum, the best forum on the internet.

              This forces a *repaint* of the browse.

              I also turned off one of our screen repaint optimizations by executing the following command (which you can add to your autoexec file):

              a5.System_Mode_Set("mdi_update_locks","false")

              I will investigate further, but please let me know if these changes fix the problem you are seeing.

              Dear Cian,

              I found the above reply of yours on the forum (I think it was written about a year ago). Since this problem has driven me insane ever since I upgraded to V8, I'm very very grateful to you. I found it worked for me when I placed the following lines in the "OnSave" event in the browse. The 2nd line was Selwyn's suggestion.

              topparent:browse1.repaint()
              topparent:browse1.fetch_last()

              Thanks again.

                Re: Embedded browse & disappearing records

                I made a global UDF to load forms which have an embedded browse, because otherwise the last record is all you see. A couple of these make life so much easier!

                Code:
                function vw_frm_1st as L(frm_name as C)
                dim frm as p
                frm = obj(frm_name)
                if is_object(frm) then
                	frm.fetch_first()
                	frm.show()
                	frm.activate()
                else
                	frm = :form.view(frm_name)
                	frm.fetch_first()
                end if
                end function
                Robin

                  This would not be necessary in V9.
