Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Cannot find specific card

Running A5V8 Enterprise Edition (1640_3985), XP Pro.

I just ran into a new (for me) error. On my laptop, I opened the Invoice form in Alphasports. When I click Design Mode on the toolbar, I get an error that reads 'Cannot find specific card'. I testing this is Alphasports because I ran into the same thing in a custom application I'm building and I wanted to see if it occurred anywhere else.

The error does not occur on my development system, nor does it occur in A5V7, that is, design mode opens as it should - just on my laptop.

Short of the tried-and-true advice one gets from Microsoft (format your hard drive, reinstall everything and see what happens), does anyone have an idea of what might be going on?

    Thanks,

    Dave

    Re: Cannot find specific card

It's not doing that on my machine..

Sure sounds like an old message that used to come up...

Does one machine have a4 on it and the other doesn't? Mine doesn't have a4.

Or an earlier version of a5?

Or a reinstall of a5v8 before canning the whole OS..??

      Al,

Both systems have multiple versions of A4 and A5.

I agree that the reference to 'card' is an oldie, but I also suspect that there is quite a bit of legacy functionality buried all through A5 (just for upgrade issues).

I have not reformatted the HD, nor do I look forward to that option!

        Dave,

You still have card stacks in v8. Have no idea if that is causing a problem though.

I just opened aplha sports and there are no cards on my machine copy.

I know the card stacks still exist, which is to say that card stacks in and of themselves did not cause the error, I'm just trying to find out what could have caused the error and/or where to look for a solution.

Dave, if Alpha Sports won't run that's a pretty decent sign your installation has been corrupted by something. I'd try to uninstall Alpha Five, reboot, and then reinstall. What's changed on the laptop since you last ran Alpha Five without a problem?

              Tom,

I kinda' modified your suggestion and I'm in good shape now. I reinstalled the original post-beta build, then the most current build and everything is 100%.

              Go figure.

              Thanks,
