Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

Text Property Tools - Stops working for no reason

    Hi,

Has anyone ever noticed the following happen whilst editing fields labels in a Form:

The Bold or Justify button on the Text Properties box stops working, until the Form is closed and re-opened.

Example:- I have selected a field label to change it to "Bold" or a field to change the Text Colour to "Red" or whatever, and everything works as it should. Then, I'll select/highlight another label or set of labels, and hit the "Bold" button , and no way will it change anything.

When this happens, the justification also stops working.

Plus, it also happens in the Drop Down Tools Window, and sometimes the option settings, such as Fileds & Titles option or any of the other options at the top of the tool box window, stop working for no reason having worked for some fileds, until the Form is closed and re-opened.

Also, on some occasions, I have to right click in the dead centre of the filed and lable to "Un-Group" them, but on some occasions, right click anywhere on either the lable or the filed allows me to select to "Un-Group".

Any help on this would be appriciated.

    Thanks in advance.

    Regards,
    Ant.

Yes. I have seen the "just stops working" issues.

No. I have not noticed the grouping issue. (The key word here is "noticed"; I haven't noticed it but can't say it doesn't happen.) However, I did send in a bug report during the holiday that the "automatically group/ungroup" setting doesn't seem to be working properly. In some cases fields and labels are automatically grouped regardless of the setting and in others they are automatically ungrouped regardless of the setting. This was not the case in previous versions.

This won't help you much since I don't believe you have it but my Group Format addin seems to solve the "just stops working" issues - at least it has for me in most cases.

      Hi Cal,

Thanks. I thought I was the only one that had this problem. Should I send a bug report in to Alpha?

BTW: I have purchased a copy of your Group Formt Add-in. Many thanks for this, it will help me as I do like to be able to format losts of objects at the same time. Well done.

      Regards,

      Ant.

One of these days I am going to try and figure out just how many objects can be edited before this happens. Something about the property sheet getting swapped out of memory seems to be the cause. Before you you pull up the property sheet xdialog, be sure you save your changes first! And yes, this does not seem to happen with Cal's Group Formatter - great little tool.

btw Cal, have you thought of adding fly over commands? I would pay for that upgrade.

Yes. I've thought about it but have to find the time. And thanks for the plug.
