Please Wait Function Implementation

Greetings All...

I have been using the PleaseWait function from the code archive that was so graciously put there by Jerry Brightbill. It works great.

For reference, the PleaseWait Function is located here:

Upon expanding my usage of it, I started using Ronald Anusiewicz's modification that has a progress bar. I really like the visual representation for the user that something is happening by the moving progress bar.

The problem I am having is the the progress bar runs in it's entirety before the command (object.queryrun) I am trying to run occurs .

Implementation of the PleaseWait2 function is below

The net effect here as far as I can tell is that Please Wait function executes first and then the query runs.

Is there a way to have the query run concurrently while the PleaseWait function progress bar is working? Am I missing something obvious?

I believe the only way to do this is to display it in a modeless Xdialog with a timer event that periodically updates the Xdialog box based upon some criteria (probably time elapsed since starting query and number of records)

A function runs synchronously, unless you open a another thread, in which case you can't do UI.

This is one way around what you want to do. It's not perfect, but it does work. You need to put in error trapping code just in case the query fails.
