Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    right click menu

    this should be simple but I can't figure it out

    on a form, on any of several date fields, I want to give the user a right click menu that will insert today's date in the field - but can't get it to work

    I've tried putting the code [this.value=date()] in the menu and run a saved script - that has the same code

    but nothing happens

    any ideas

    Re: right click menu

    Very easy...
    In your script which you will use for the right-click (as per your image), instead of using "Run a saved script", instead use "built in action".. In the context, set it to Form view, then in the action select: edit, insert date.
    That's all.

      Re: right click menu

      that works - thanks - but how would you play a script of run code? thats what I'm most interested in figuring out.

      finally got a script to work!! although unneeded here, in other instances I need a script/code to fire.

      Code:
      if is_object(topparent.this)
       temp1=topparent.this
       temp2=temp1.name()
       temp3=eval(":"+temp2+".active()")
       eval(":" + temp2 + ":" + temp3 + ".value") = date()
      end if

        Re: right click menu

        It would work as any other script would, except in this case, when you righ-click you loose focus of the date field and you have to point to it somehow.

        Here is a very simple code to do that:
        eval(topparent.active()+".value")=date()

          Re: right click menu

          I had already tried your code and several other possibilities - but the only thing I could get to work was what I posted earlier. I suspect there may be a way to reduce the steps, but haven't figured it out.

            Re: right click menu

            Give it another try, it works.
            You could reduce your code to:
            temp=topparent.active()
            eval(temp+".value")=date()

            And if you reduce it one more step, it will turn into my code

              Charlie, I did try - and I just tried both of your code's - and neither of them work - at least at this end.

              eval(topparent.active()+".value")=date() 'does not work

              temp=topparent.active()
              eval(temp+".value")=date() 'does not work

                Re: right click menu

                make sure your cursor at the date field before your right-click.

                  did you try this code yourself?

                  using the build-in action and/or my code works like a champ.

                        here's a sample that uses all three codes - from 3 different menus - on 3 different fields

                        see if it works at your end - may be something haywire at my end

                            For me the Today version works but both the Today1 and Today2 don't, ie the date doesn't get placed in the field.

                              Charlie, I downloaded your zip, and today1 and today2 do not put the date in the field

                              I was using the first 3088 build - updated to the second 3088 (June 1), and still the same behavior

                              what version are you using?
