Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    DBF.Filter question

    I use DBF.Filter to help filter pages when components are loaded. Are there troubleshooting tips for DBF.Filter. I was unable to find any. To demonstrate what I am seeing below is an example of a working one and one that doesn't. All fields are guaranteed to be correct. Any suggestions would be great.

    This one works great:
    Code:
    with tmpl_My_Transactions
    	componentName = "My_Transactions"
    	DBF.filter = "Offer_user_id =" +quote(session.User_id)
    	DBF.filter= "Accept_user_id =" +quote(session.User_id)
    end with
    This one doesn't (I left in other 'tries' to show you what I attempted)
    Code:
    with tmpl_Swap_proposals
    	componentName = "Swap_proposals"
    	'DBF.filter = "Email=" + quote(session.User_Name)
    	'DBF.filter = "(user_id = \"session.User_id\"  )
                 DBF.filter = "User_id = 0"  [COLOR="Blue"]this one I put in a variable I knew was in the table[/COLOR]	DBF.filter = "Date > (date()-30)"
    end with
    Thanks

    Re: DBF.Filter question

    Hi Ken

    hope you are doing well

    This one works great:
    Code:

    with tmpl_My_Transactions
    componentName = "My_Transactions"
    DBF.filter = "Offer_user_id =" +quote(session.User_id)
    DBF.filter= "Accept_user_id =" +quote(session.User_id)
    end with

    you said the above code is working great
    but i thnk that your second DBF.filter assignment is overwriting your first one

    see the help file
    http://support.alphasoftware.com/alp...der_Syntax.htm

    in particular if you want to filter using 2 fields you need to use the .AND. operator like this

    DBF.filter = "Offer_user_id =" + quote(session.User_id) .AND. "Accept_user_id =" + quote(session.User_id)

    the way i use a filter is

    Code:
    with tmpl_ChooseDelivery
    	componentName = "ChooseDelivery"
    		'--------------Set page filter-----------
    		if eval_valid("session.userid") = .T. then
    			'?session.userid
    			.DBF.Filter="Abk_id=" + session.userid
    			field_info[1].DropDownBox.Filter = "Abk_id=" + session.userid
    		else
    			.DBF.Filter="Abk_id=" + 0
    			field_info[1].DropDownBox.Filter = "Abk_id=" + 0

    		end if
    		'--------------End page setup----------------

    end with
    the above code is for a numeric session.userid so there are no quotes involved

    to test your filter- use this
    ? "Mydatabase filter is>>" + .DBF.Filter

    after you have assigned a value to it
    like this
    Code:
    with tmpl_ChooseDelivery
    	componentName = "ChooseDelivery"
    		'--------------Set page filter-----------
    		if eval_valid("session.userid") = .T. then
    			'?session.userid
    			.DBF.Filter="Abk_id=" + session.userid
    			field_info[1].DropDownBox.Filter = "Abk_id=" + session.userid
    		else
    			.DBF.Filter="Abk_id=" + 0
    			field_info[1].DropDownBox.Filter = "Abk_id=" + 0

    		end if
    ? "Mydatabase filter is>>" + .DBF.Filter
    		'--------------End page setup----------------

    end with
    as to you second code snippet i really dont think that you should be useing Date as a variable or field name - i believe that it is used by alpha and is reserved

      Nahhh! I have a million tables in various apps and most of them have a field called "Date". If that becomes illegal I'm outta business!

        Re: DBF.Filter question

        Martin- thanks for the reply.

        I think you are right in regards to the second filter negating the first. When I try to combine the filter with an .OR. it says the argument is wrong.

        I can't seem to get it to filter based on the first filter expression then run the second expression to take those records as well.

        Any idea on how to get this to work?

          Re: DBF.Filter question

          Sorry Ken

          i made a little booboo

          DBF.filter = "Offer_user_id =" + quote(session.User_id) .AND. "Accept_user_id =" + quote(session.User_id)

          should be

          DBF.filter = "Offer_user_id =" + quote(session.User_id) + " .AND. Accept_user_id =" + quote(session.User_id)

          i believe - so that should make the OR filter

          DBF.filter = "Offer_user_id =" + quote(session.User_id) + " .OR. Accept_user_id =" + quote(session.User_id)
          assuming that the session.IDs are character type
          regards
