Variable in AlphaDAO Connection String

Greetings

I have been messing with this for awhile and just cannot make the following work. I am wanting to import an excel spreadsheet into Alpha using a variable in the filename area of the connection string.

Can anyone shed some light on using a variable in the connection string for the filename portion of the string?

'gvimportsrcdir is a global variable defined on startup
'The following builds the string and is correct in the interactive window
'example of the string would be c:\myapp\import\contacts.xls

vimportdir=alltrim(gvimportsrcdir)+"contacts.xls"

This hard coded string works as it should.   It was built with the genie. 
'connectionString = "{A5API='Excel',A5Syntax='Excel',FileName='c:\shoemakerSvcVer8\importfiles\contacts.xls'}" 

'This is one option I have tried with no success
connectionString = "{A5API='Excel',A5Syntax='Excel',FileName=s_quote(vimportdir)}"

Any help would be most appreciated.

Try this.. Your variable is within a set of " " so it is a string rather than a variable.

connectionString = "{A5API='Excel',A5Syntax='Excel',FileName='"+alltrim(vimportdir)+"'}"

Or look at these other options to help with this type of replacing within a string...

This works for me:

vcXLwbk = ui_get_file("Select data file", "Excel (*.xls)")
IF vcXLwbk = "" THEN
	msgbox("No file selected", "No data file selected. Procedure cancelled.", UI_ATTENTION_SYMBOL + UI_OK)
	END'
END IF

'Connect & import
DIM connectionString as C
connectionString = "{A5API='Excel',A5Syntax='Excel',FileName='" + vcXLwbk + "'}"
