Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    500 Internal Server Error

    Hi
    i have been trying to use the Web interface for Alpha Five, i have created a project and a grid component tests fine, i then save the component and save the page. when i test in my web browser all fine, i then go in to the A5W page and add some text etc and get the following message when i preview in the web browser.

    500 Internal Server Error
    "Script Error
    Error:line:8 Missing right parenthesis"

    If i delete the page and re-create it with text, component etc all works ok until i edit the page again then it does the same.

    i may be doing something wrong does anyone have any ideas.
    Thanks

    Tim

    Re: 500 Internal Server Error

    What do you mean by Edit the Page? Adding xbasic or just typing in the wysiwyg page? Easiest if you just go to the A5W page (the one that causes the error), go to Source and copy-paste the first 20 lines here on the forum.

      Be sure you have updated to the latest build. There was a problem in very early Alpha Five V8 builds where making certain changes on the WYSIWYG view could result in a corrupted page and give that specific error. That was fixed some time ago. A simple solution for any build is make your edits and then switch to the Source view and save from there.

        Hi here's the code from the page
        <html>
        <head>
        <!-- must use in order to make XP Themes render -->
        <meta HTTP-EQUIV="MSThemeCompatible" content="Yes" />

        <%A5
        Delete Tmpl
        DIM Tmpl as P
        tmpl = a5w_load_component("stock")
        'Following code allows you to override settings in the saved component, and specify the component alias (componentName property).
        'Tip: Keep the componentName property short because this name is used in page URLs, and it will help keep the URLs short.
        'Each component on a page must have a unique alias (componentName property).
        with tmpl
        componentName = "stock"
        end with
        '=======================================compute the HTML for the Component=======================================
        delete x_out
        dim x_out as p

          Re: 500 Internal Server Error

          The syntax on your page seems a little off. Normally, like on that first line, it would be "delete tmpl_stock, and then later on delete x_stock. I would create a brand new A5W page, save it, then insert your component and try. Leave out the XP Themes stuff until you test without.

            Hi all

            I seem to have the problem under control, firstly i checked the version i was running and it was the most upto date, i still received the same error message, i then tried switching to the code view instead of the WYSIWYG view before saving and the error is fixed.

            thanks for your help.
            Thanks

              do you have something hand coded in the source area?just curious because it should not be a factor.
