Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

Saving Excel chart in pdf and showing as report in web??

It is possible to create a chart in excel using information from Alpha tables(which have been changed to Excel format). These would be static charts.

    Question

Is it possible to create a script that would open up acrobat and then open the pdf folder containing the chart and show as chart on the web ( similar to the procedure when using "live" data to show reports in pdf on the web)

I do understand that this would be a fixed static chart prepared seperately in excel but I could live with that.

    Thanks Robert

    Robert

    Good morning here, afternoon there...

If I understand what you are doing... when you make the static chart with excel, use excel to print to a pdf and link to that pdf. You may need a pdf print driver, but they are available for less than $30 US .

Your example sounds like a manual process - and that's fine and may be the best way to handle it. To do it automatically, use Alpha and OLE methods to control excel and the pdf printing.

I use Alpha and OLE to read word docs and output html and pdf versions that are displayed via web linkages. I'm guessing transforming word docs is much easier than controlling excel and chart making.

Hi Al, nice to hear from you.

If I understand what you are doing... when you make the static chart with excel, use excel to print to a pdf and link to that pdf.
Exactly what I am trying to do short term, Al.

You may need a pdf print driver, but they are available for less than $30 US . Why would I need a pdf print driver.?

Your example sounds like a manual process.
It will be a manual process once per month on updated information. I understand that procedure and is very adaptable to allow me to produce the exact charting that I require.

      - and that's fine and may be the best way to handle it. To do it automatically, use Alpha and OLE methods to control excel and the pdf printing.
I've never used OLE methods before, if you could give me an indication of where I would look to find info that would guide me. At present I'm copying and adapting tutorials and the tutorial that allows you to select a report to print, opens acrobat and then presents the report on the web is what I'm using at present.

I use Alpha and OLE to read word docs and output html and pdf versions that are displayed via web linkages.
What you state above is exactly what I require at this stage hopefully allowing the client to print off the charts that I manually produce.

I'm guessing transforming word docs is much easier than controlling excel and chart making.
I suppose I could paste the charts into word doc and use the same procedure that you adopt, Al.

If you could provide me with further info I would appreciate that.

      Thanks Al
      Regards Robert

To have excel print the chart to a pdf. Unless that is already built into excel. My versions of excel don't have pdf generation built in.

The help file has extensive coverage of OLE.

Actually, you would use excel OLE methods and work with excel directly. Think of it like having Alpha type the commands into excel instead of the user. That's just about what it is..

BTW, I just got off the phone with a buddy and he tells me that his neighbor is in Scotland now and returning in a few days. Have you seen him? :D Tall, lanky - speaks midwest english..... Tell him to bring me back some of your best products.... ;)

          Hi Al,

My version of excel produces pdf reports directly so that answers that then.

I'll revue the link that you gave me, do a little research and see where that leads me.

Big lanky Guy - Yeah spoke to him yesterday - Nice guy. Loves Scotland he does. He's sorry he's leaving/ loved the people over here. Thought we were "PUREDEADBRILLIANT". That's nice in your language, Al.

I'll get back when I hit trouble again, Al. BYETHENOO. Work it out.
