Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

Image Reference File - A5 Crashing when used on Reports

    Hey all,
I have got a really nice ID card picture taking setup. I use an "Image Reference Field" to save my images. I am now designing the actual ID card as a report. The data portion (Name, ID #, etc) is no problem. I then add the "Image Reference Field". I save my work and then I try to preview my test data. What SHOULD happen in the preview window is that my report should display the individual's picture and personal data.

However, attached is the error I am getting everytime Alpha completely crashes.

Does anyone have experience with using Image Reference for ID cards, badges, or just using that field type on reports?

    Thanks
    Steve Hall

    Steve,
I noticed your question got buried a bit so will bump it to the top.

I have version 5 and just used the image reference in a report and it works just fine so it is either a bug with Version 8 or something else going on with how you have things set up. Maybe someone who has Version 8 will respond to verify whether it works or not. If it is not a bug and you still need help with this a sample database will most likely be needed for others to do so.

      Hey Mike,
I've attached an example. It works, however try changing the filter on the actual report to filter on the Link number and you should get the error I receive. (Version 7)

Re: Image Reference File - A5 Crashing when used on Reports

        Steve,

I took a look but am wondering what your filter is --just placing the filter as Link(from the Players table) brings up all records (I added one to the single record you had). I would think that you would have had a form or browse in which you would either set the current Link to be the filter for the report or set a variable to equal your link value and then set your report filter to equal the variable.

Regardless I am able to set Link as the filter and the record(s) come up with the image without a hitch.

          Hey Mike,
That was just an example filter. It just crashed on me again when I was trying to design the ID again. This time, I had added the working for the back of the ID card and I drew the box to add a .bmp file. As soon as I right-clicked and selected "Properties", it crashed again.

I also added a repeating detail footer where I was putting this info.

            Steve,
The only other thing I noticed is that before it would print preview on my pc a dialog comes up regarding my printer margins not being set good enough to allow the entire report to show and that the radio selection of Trim should be chosen to remedy this. If your margins don't match either maybe Version 7 is a bit more touchy and crashes before the error dialog comes up????

We (You) need someone with the same version though to really substantiate what is or is not happening to your report. Here's hoping someone else comes along in that regard!

              Hey Mike,
I get that as well. I'm hoping someone with the same version can come up with an answer as well.
