Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Mouse wheel scroll on form

I have a database that was designed in version 5. I am in the process of converting it to version 8.

One of my forms is vertically taller than the screen is. In version 5 I could use the scroll wheel of my mouse to scroll the form vertically. In version 8 I am unable to scroll the form. Moving the mouse wheel has no effect on the form.

If I create a new form in version 8 and size it to be vertically larger than the screen then my scroll wheel works.

Is there an option that I need to select in order for the mouse wheel to scroll the form?

    Andrew,

You're right. I opened a database form in V5 and the scroll wheel worked as you stated, but when I opened the same database in V8, as well as a database created in V8 in V8, the scroll wheel does NOT work.

You might want to report that as a bug, or at least a feature that does not work anymore.

Opened the form in design and saved it no luck :(

I will report as possible bug. I think in mean time I will just rebuild the form.

try opening the old form, do a select all and copy - make a new form on same table/set, and do a ctrl-V or paste - may be all you need to do

You could say I spoke too soon, or in this case about 2 months too soon.

I believe that issue is related to having a hidden button the form. After making the new form, I forgot to re-hide the button which is what lead me to believe that form was fixed. Here just this week, I re-hide the button in an update and the form stopped scrolling.

I have already informed Alpha of the new information.

                Update -

I have found out that if a text box has focus the form will not scroll.

If a button has focus the form will scroll.

What is meant by the word focus in a text box? I have the same problem with my scroll.

Re: Mouse wheel scroll on form

If a user entered text type object such as a field is active, meaning the cursor is in the field, the form will not scroll. If you tab through the form until a button is selected (not pushed), the form will scroll.
                    There can be only one.

So it looks like I just can't use that function, all my fields have cursors active in them as you tab through the form. This is the only program that I can't scroll with.

Not that you should have to but have you considered a tabbed object or conditional object to keep all the fields on one screen to eliminate the need for scrolling?

I unfortunately did not design any of the forms, they were designed in an earlier version of Alpha, and unfortunately I am not even sure where to begin as far as tabbed objects or conditional objects are concerned.

I will let the boss know that the scroll function is just not going to work with this program, maybe a newer version will have this issue resolved one day.
