Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

Filter lookup grid based on security framework

    Hi,

I have a grid with several product code fields that are supposed to lookup to a stock grid.

The stock grid when looked at directly has a filter that removes all stock items not within a users security group, with the following filter.

    Exclude=.f..and.remspecial(org_code)$remspecial(:usergroups)

(org_code on the stock table must be contained within the argument :usergroups, which is intern taken from a session variable)
This works fine when just using the the grid on its own, but not when I try and use this grid as a lookup.

I don't seem to be able to use either the session variable or the argument name in the lookup query option.

Do I have to explicitly name the variables with the lookup alias, can't understand how this is to be applied.

Re: Filter lookup grid based on security framework

    Ok,

just posting to say the problem isnt using session variables to filter, that actually works quite easily.
If someone belongs to two security groups, it fails, so I setup a session variable with a remspecial command to strip out the spacers, that works fine, but its not really applicable in my particular case.
I wan't to filter a list of records that have a field thats contained within the security group variable.
I tried to use string1$string2, but this also fails, so I presume the $ method isnt compliant with the url filtering method, is there a better alternative?
Or am I barking up the wrong tree totaly!

Re: Filter lookup grid based on security framework

It appears that the when using the query parameters in the lookup definition of a field in a grid, lookup_link_1c= only works with basic x=y type syntax.
I was trying to use the $ method to search for one string in another.

Help file heading reference, "A5W Page Link, Filter, and Order Syntax"

I am not sure if I can use a lookup_filter= type method as mentioned in the help file (so far my attempts to use it have failed).

I am simply trying to filter the lookup grid to show only the records that have a org_code value thats contained in the logged in users security group string.

I don't think I can carry on down this particular route so am going to try and create an initial dialogue that forces the user to confirm the specific group they want create an order for (they could belong to multiple groups) and then carry on the resulting session variable to the simple lookup_link_1c syntax.

I am surprised I can't find many examples of this on the board or help file (although I probably havent found it yet).
