    Default Embarrasing rookie question-starting

Ok. I've had v4 (desktop only) for years. Now want to develop web based system using Enterprise v8. Just purchased Enterprise along with App Server 8. What are the steps for developing this? Do I concentrate on a desktop system first? Develop the field rules, database links, etc. When this is finished, then begin work on the web components side? I know I can do this. I just hope to receive some initial direction from you veterans out there.
    Thanks Eric

Oh, if you'd only seen some of the stuff most of us didn't know or know how to do when we got started. Better to ask questions here than not.

First stop for you should be the free learning. Start here and go to the Web Publishing Tutorial: A5 Online Help

I did go to where you suggested but didn't locate the answer to my questions.

    OK, in general:

    Create a new database.

Create a table in the database.

Build any field rules for that table. Remember they're very limited in the WAS. In general, the only rules I use are for autoincrement, default value, and calculated fields.

Then build a grid component to use that table, and learn how to publish it on an .a5w page. Use the local webroot for starters -- there's less to learn there.

    That'll get you started.

There are lots of examples in the web app demo that comes with A5 as well.
