    Default What happened to search

Howdy. I type in a search phrase & get back an error about being TOO short.

    Maybe some one can help.

A customer is now getting an error message "database is already in use by 1 or more Alpha5 users on a network..."

Our app uses a "10 user runtime" & there are a MAX of 4 users using our application. I remember reading eons ago about a file that can be deleted so some internal A5 file resets at the File Server so they don't get this error.

    This just started.

    BIG thanks.

Look for a file with a .muf extension in the application's folder. It is supposed to reflect a user count but when a machine or application is shut down in a disorderly fashion (eg. crashes etc.) the muf (multiple user file) may not update properly.

    Thanks.

Does this mean I can have them DELETE it on their File Server & our app or Alpha5 will make another one? I did not notice a MUF file at the workstations.

It will be in the application folder on the server. If you think about it this is where it must be if it is to keep a count of users to that database.

If it is deleted Alpha will make a new one when somebody opens the database. My recollection is that no users can be accessing the database when you delete because otherwise the file would be in use.

This is an easy and safe fix to try. If deleting the file doesn't remove the problem something else is going on.

Thanks again. In the "Application" folder is both a MUF & RMUF file. Can I assume that the RMUF file is the one to delete if we are using the runtime?

You gave me something to look up. You are in fact correct as I discovered by looking at "Alpha Five File Types" in the documentation.

Upon reflection it stands to reason that there would be two files as there are two counts to keep track of.
