Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Error Running Addin Startup_100_Request_Controls

I am getting the error below when running a program with a runtime on a machine that had an old version of the program/runtime on it. If you skip it the program loads ok. I tried deleting the runtime and reinstalling. Iwent through the registry and deleted keys that contained the refrence below but the message still comes up any ideas?

Check the folder "addins-installed" within the runtime directory. Is something there that shouldn't be? If so, remove it, and see what happens.

          From the Help File

          Erros running addin 'Startup_100_Register_Control"

You need to register the following controls with regsvr32.exe.

          a5controls.dll
          A5ContextEval.dll
          SimpleChart4Lite.dll
          Codejock.SuiteCtrls.9700.ocx

If you have both Codejock.PropertyGrid.v9.81.ocx and Codejock.PropertyGrid.9700.ocx on your computer, the preferred control to register is Codejock.PropertyGrid.v9.81.ocx.

No it is not, but is LOOKS very similar to the error in this thread

              http://msgboard.alphasoftware.com/al...ad.php?t=65398

(down to the registry key) Just perhaps the error was stated incorrectly by John??

It certainly could not hurt by trying?

Wasn't criticizing, just commenting. Probably should have stayed out of it. Sorry.

                  Stan,

No criticism taken, no apology needed. I just hate to see someone not try something that may help. I have run into this error before and registering the controls took care of it (the Startup_100_Register_Control error not the Startup_100_Request_Controls error)

Everyone's 2 cents is always welcome.

Here is a zipped bat file to register. I doubt it will help you, but won't hurt. I run it on every install as a precaution.

                      Re: Error Running Addin Startup_100_Request_Controls

if you install the runtime from a patch vs. the full original install cd or download, controls do not get registered, and a few other issues. But if you first install with the original install it should take care of the mentioned issues.

                      or

if you simply copy your runtime folder to a new computer, you will have the same issues - it must be installed initially from the original install for every computer

although registering the control manually, as in above in this thread, may deal with it

                        Martin,

My installs to other computers are a copy of a complete folder with the alpha files installed and all the data files in the same folder(also the reg entries). Yes, it was patched(on my computer). Since I did the correct.bat file that gets run on install, I have had no problems.

I am not sure I understand. When I create a program I give it out with the runtime created by the install program built into alpha. It is only the runtime and not a full install.

I have not been able to get rid of this. I tried reinstalling the alpha runtime to no avail. There is no addin directory. I have no idea where to go with this.
