Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

List the whole code here. Also, is this a simple report or do you have a bunch of calcaluated fields and variables defined? This is not a normal error to have on a report.

Re: Web Dialog Database not talking

Well, your question was enough to solve it. I had added a Date variable to the title....removing this caused the report to display properly. Why is that? Or rather, what could I do to add the report date to the top of the report?

Re: Web Dialog Database not talking

Everything in the web is charactor. I've never included a data var in a report, but converting it to a charator representation of a date would work.

Hey I see you are in Santa Cruz, only 90 minutes away. If you ever get up to the Bay Area and want to have a mini users meeting, let me know (Castro Valley).

Hi Steve, any news on that mini users meeting? If anyone else is around and is interested, it might be fun to get together and talk about A5. I have lots of questions and I have a friend who works in Fresno that also just started using A5 at his job and probably would come up as well. We could also talk a little about professional A5 hosting.

            Maybe in January sometime?

Re: Web Dialog Database not talking

The Friday Nooner webinars are still on. In fact I've scheduled in QReportBuilder (QuickBooks reportwriter written in Alpha Five). Not sure how many will come for that versus straight Alpha.

If you want to help organize a Bay Area User's Group meeting, I can host it at my house. I can get four or five to attend from my local area. With promotion, we can get 10 here. Maybe we'll have another earthquake.

Re: Web Dialog Database not talking

I'm not sure I can use the quickbooks stuff, but I may stop in to listen just to see how the webinar thing works.

As for organizing the group, I can probably do it, but what's involved? Other than advertising on the forum, that is.

I have all the resource here to put on a good show and can handle up to 25. The forum is one place, and I can hit up someone at Alpha to do an email blast to a particular geographic area.
